THE FEAT: Pitched all 15 innings with a career-high 28 strikeouts in Floral Park's 1-0 win against Plainedge in the first of a three-game final series on May 24. In the third game, she struck out 13 and drove in the only run in Floral Park's 1-0 win on May 27 at Mitchel Athletic Complex to claim the Nassau Class A softball title. THE QUOTE: "I was really pumped in game one and as I got tired I just took it inning by inning," Giovanniello said. "I knew it would be intense, it was a tight series and we took it one game at a time."
FUNDAMENTALS: Giovanniello has played softball on Team Long Island since she was 9 years old. She believes that it is most important to know the fundamentals and be strong mentally, saying that knowing what to do with the ball trumps the physical aspect of the game. Finding her strength in her mental toughness, she would like to work on making each of her pitches stronger. Giovanniello followed her sister, Jackie, as the Knights pitcher and led the team to a state championship last year.
WHAT'S NEXT: Floral Park will be playing Eastport-South Manor in the Long Island Championship at Mitchel Athletic Complex on Tuesday. Giovanniello hopes for a repeat of last season's success. This summer, Giovanniello will be playing travel ball with Team Long Island.
