Brian Burgos hits walk-off single for Sayville

How's this for a happy birthday?

Brian Burgos, who turned 17 Monday, hit a walk-off single in the eighth inning that scored Matt Bavaro and lifted Sayville over Rocky Point, 4-3, in the Suffolk League VI baseball opener for both teams.

Richie Ward hit a two-run single in the sixth that tied it at 3 for the Golden Flashes. Brett Bencivenga picked up the win with three scoreless innings in relief.

Bayport-Blue Point 13, Amityville 0: P.J. Weeks and Jake Terrill combined to throw a perfect game for Bayport-Blue Point (1-0) in League VII. Weeks went six innings and struck out 12. "He was very efficient. He didn't get into many deep counts at all," BBP coach Jim Moccio said. Rob Acierno had two doubles and three RBIs.

Kings Park 1, Bellport 0: Rich Woessner scored on a fielder's choice by Nick Fazio with one out in the top of the 12th. Centerfielder John Nici threw out the potential winning run after fielding a Bellport base hit with one out in the bottom of the 11th. Anthony Fiorentine threw nine scoreless innings for Kings Park (1-0).

Sachem North 2, Lindenhurst 1: Nick Cordero's walk-off double in the eighth scored Vinny Valente in the League II opener for both teams. Valente led off the inning with a double. Brian Amato pitched 21/3 hitless innings in relief and struck out two.

Smithtown East 3, Smithtown West 1: James Myers broke a 1-1 tie in the sixth with a solo homer for Smithtown East (1-0) in League III. Dominic Savino pitched a complete game and struck out four while allowing one earned run and six hits. Pat Lagravinese went 3-for-3 for East.

Floyd 4, Longwood 0: Mike Bovenzi threw a four-hit shutout and struck out four in the League I opener. Mike Bradley's single in the eighth drove in James McAleavy to key a four-run inning.

Wheatley 3, Valley Stream Central 2: Matt Hogg's single drove in Mike Carney from second base with the go-ahead run in the fourth inning to lead Wheatley (1-1) in non-league. Carney's double tied it at 2 in the fourth. Andrew Hastings went 3-for-3 with two doubles in the win.

Island Trees 2, Seaford 0: T.J. Romano pitched a five-hit shutout and struck out five in the Conference A-IV opener. Rich Pinsent's RBI single in the first inning gave the Bulldogs a 2-0 lead. Tom Gilmartin went 3-for-4 with two doubles and a run.

Oceanside 8, Calhoun 5: Justin Krokoff's RBI single in the top of the seventh gave Oceanside a 6-5 lead in its non-league opener. Mike Siklas' two-run single earlier in the inning tied it at 5. Kyle Martin went 2-for-3 with a double, a stolen base and an RBI.

SOFTBALLFloral Park 6, Cold Spring Harbor 5: Riley Anderson hit a walk-off solo home run to cap a five-run rally in the seventh for Floral Park (2-0) in Conference AB-II. Jenn Sullivan went 2-for-3 with two RBIs

Island Trees 2, Division 1: Sam Melendez's double to leftfield scored Kate Valente to give Island Trees (2-0) a 2-0 lead in the sixth inning in Conference A-I. Valente entered as a courtesy runner for pitcher Ashley Melendez, who belted a triple down the rightfield line. Ashley Melendez tossed a complete game and no-hit the Blue Dragons through the first five innings. She struck out six and allowed two hits and one run.

Babylon 15, Mattituck 3: Gwen Donaldson went 5-for-5, hit for the cycle with seven RBIs and scored five runs for Babylon (2-1) in League VI. Alyssa Sasuk went 3-for-4 with a two-run homer, three RBIs and two runs.

North Babylon 8, Bay Shore 4: Alexis Rutha went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run in the sixth inning that gave North Babylon (2-0) a three-run lead in League II.

Connetquot 6, Northport 4: Steviemarie Otto went 2-for-3 with two doubles and two RBIs for Connetquot (2-0) in League I.

Oyster Bay 2, Jericho 0: Dana Galgano threw a three-hitter with seven strikeouts and Emily Moore went 2-for-4 with two RBIs to lead Oyster Bay in Conference A-II.

Shoreham-Wading River 5, Islip 3: Hailey Tilton's two-run home run in the top of the seventh gave Shoreham-Wading River (2-0) a 5-2 lead in non-league.
