Dedona's double for Bethpage tops Plainedge

Anthony Dedona hit a double in the bottom of the eighth inning that scored Joey Schultheis as Bethpage defeated Plainedge, 1-0, in Nassau Conference A-III baseball Monday. Schultheis was hit by a pitch and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Billy Hofmann threw a six-hit shutout with a walk and four strikeouts. Plainedge starter Tyler Manez pitched seven scoreless innings with seven strikeouts.

Calhoun 3, Mepham 0: Senior Frank Trimarco threw a two-hit shutout with one walk and a career-high 17 strikeouts to lead Calhoun (11-2) in Conference AA-III. Thomas Viverito's RBI single in the bottom of the first broke a scoreless tie.

North Shore 0, Island Trees 0: Cody Johnson pitched eight innings, allowing four hits with five strikeouts and two walks for North Shore (11-3-1), and Island Trees' Mike Jeannetti pitched 81/3 innings with 14 strikeouts, four hits and seven walks as the two teams played to a nine-inning tie in Conference A-VI.

Comsewogue 1, Deer Park 0: Vin Aprea threw a four-hit shutout with one walk and eight strikeouts to lead Comsewogue (4-14) in League V. Tom Weigl's RBI single in the bottom of the first scored T.J. Riccio.

Kings Park 3, Eastport-South Manor 1: Zack Garick and Ray Ambrosio had back-to-back suicide squeezes in the top of the first inning to give Kings Park (15-3) a 2-0 lead.

Islip 3, Sayville 2: Matt Busch threw a four-hitter with two strikeouts to lead Islip (9-8) in League VI.


Long Beach 2, Syosset 0: Ashley Martin's solo home run in the top of the seventh broke a scoreless tie for Long Beach (7-5) in Conference AA-I. Martin threw a four-hit shutout with nine strikeouts and no walks.

Island Trees 1, New Hyde Park 0: Alannah Basile threw a three-hitter with eight strikeouts for Island Trees (11-1) in Conference ABC-I.

Carle Place 7, Valley Stream North 0: Ashley Cole threw a four-hitter for her 12th shutout of the season to lead Carle Place (11-1) in Conference ABC-II.

Mineola 4, Division 3: Valerie Fischer's RBI single scored Christina Palmenteri and capped a three-run rally in the bottom of the sixth as Mineola (8-4) came back to win in Conference ABC-III.

Longwood 7, Patchogue-Medford 5: Leah Mele was 2-for-4 with a solo home run in the fifth to put Longwood (14-1) ahead 4-1 in League I. Kylie Spillett hit two doubles.

Bay Shore 8, Lindenhurst 1: Michelle DeVito threw a two-hitter with nine strikeouts and allowed no earned runs and Courtney Syrett went 3-for-3 with three runs to lead Bay Shore (15-0) in League II.

Hauppauge 11, Whitman 3: Marietta Silliman was 4-for-5 with two doubles and five RBIs and Sandy Hawthorne was 4-for-6 with two doubles and two RBIs to lead Hauppauge (11-3) in League IV.

Sayville 12, Glenn 0: Kathleen Maehr went 4-for-4 with six RBIs and hit for the cycle and Cindy Griffin went 2-for-3 with a triple as Sayville (13-1) won in five innings in League VI.

Rocky Point 2, East Hampton 1: Alexa Mastando's two-out double in the bottom of the sixth scored Annie Kennedy to break a tie at 1 for Rocky Point (8-7).

Babylon 4, Center Moriches 1: Tiana Giuliano threw a two-hitter with seven strikeouts, no walks and one earned run to lead Babylon (12-0) in a League VII/VIII crossover.
