Hauppauge's Nick Fanti tosses second straight no-hitter

Nick Fanti tossed his second consecutive no-hitter and struck out 16 to lead Hauppauge over Huntington, 6-0, at Bethpage Ballpark yesterday in Suffolk League V baseball.

Fanti faced the minimum 21 batters. He picked off the only baserunner he allowed after giving up a leadoff walk in the fifth.

"He's constantly ahead in the count and that's because he has a great feel for all of his pitches,'' Eagles coach Josh Gutes said. "He worked mostly off his fastball today, but his breaking ball was just as good.''

Fanti (3-0) has allowed two hits and struck out 38 in 19 innings this season. Bryan Seltenreich and Billy Huber had RBI triples and Fanti lined a long sacrifice fly for Hauppauge (4-0).

MacArthur 4, Long Beach 0: Jack Wall threw a no-hitter with one walk and 12 strikeouts to lead MacArthur (4-0) in Conference AA-III. Wall took a perfect game into the seventh before walking the leadoff batter.

"He had a really good fastball which allowed him to use the curve," MacArthur coach Steve Costello said. Wall has not allowed a run in 18 innings this season. Brandon Kustek went 2-for-3 with three RBIs.Floyd 1, Brentwood 0: Rob Brust's two-out single in the ninth drove in Mike Bradley to lead Floyd (3-4) in League I. Mike Bovenzi allowed five hits and struck out 16 in a complete game.

Southold 6, Port Jefferson 5: Sean Moran doubled with one out in the top of the eighth and came around on two passed balls for Southold (6-1) in League IX. Alex Poliwoda scattered six hits and struck out six in a complete-game win.Rocky Point 5, Harborfields 4: Brian Forbes went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and Kyle Strovink was 2-for-4 to lead Rocky Point (2-5) in League VI. Michael Volpe hit a two-run double in the fourth inning to give Rocky Point a 3-2 lead and Forbes hit a two-run single in the fifth to make it 5-2.

Calhoun 1, Port Washington 0: Rob Backus threw a two-hitter for Calhoun (1-3) in Conference AA-III. Bobby Bianco scored on an overthrow in the first inning.

Jericho 7, Bellmore JFK 6: Stephen Balko singled home the winning run in the bottom of the seventh to lead Jericho (2-5) in Conference A-I. Nico Doria had tied the score with a single earlier in the inning. In the top of the seventh, Nick Lisi and Eric Pauly homered to put Bellmore JFK ahead 6-5. David Marman went 3-for-3 for Jericho.

Valley Stream Central 9, Mepham 8: Will DeLuca singled home Justin Crisostomo in the bottom of the seventh inning for Valley Stream Central (3-1) in Conference AA-III. Elijah Tavarez had a two-run homer and Mike Ciullo had an RBI single as Valley Stream Central scored five times in the seventh.
