Kass' double helps Calhoun baseball win

Ryan Kass doubled home Dan Sullivan with one out in the top of the eighth inning to give No. 2 Calhoun (18-5) a one-run lead in a 4-3 win over No. 3 Carey Tuesday, and it swept a best-of-three Nassau Class AA baseball semifinal series. Frank Trimaco hit a two-run single with two outs in the top of the seventh to tie it at 3. Joe Saladino struck out three in two innings of scoreless relief to earn the win.

Calhoun plays MacArthur in the best-of-three county finals beginning at noon Monday at Farmingdale State.MacArthur 3, Bellmore JFK 1: Matt DiBiase singled in Mike Scro in the top of the sixth to break a tie at 1 for No. 1 MacArthur (20-3) in a Game 2 win to sweep a best-of-three Nassau Class AA semifinal series.

Island Trees 7, Division 4: Brandon Garcia's RBI single in the fourth inning scored Ryan MacDonald to give No. 4 Island Trees (15-10) a 4-3 lead in Game 2 of a best-of-three Nassau Class A semifinal series. Game 3 is 4:30 p.m. Thursday at Division.

Plainedge 4, Wantagh 2: Nick Cassio had an RBI double and Joe Pugliese had a three-run home run in a four-run first inning for No. 5 Plainedge (14-9) against No. 1 Wantagh in Game 2 of a best-of-three Class A semifinal series. Game 3 is at 4:15 p.m. Thursday at Wantagh.Rocky Point 4, Bayport-Blue Point 3: Anthony Zitaglio led off the bottom of the seventh with a home run to win it for No. 7 Rocky Point (14-8) in a Suffolk Class A losers bracket game. Brine Gill struck out 10 in the win. Rocky Point plays at Sayville at 4 p.m. Wednesday.

Connetquot 8, Commack 5: Kenny Jackson's grand slam with two outs in the bottom of the sixth gave No. 9 Connetquot (15-8) an 8-5 lead in a Class AA losers bracket game. Connetquot plays Patchogue-Medford at 4 p.m. Wednesday.Lawrence Woodmere 7, Brooklyn Friends 5: Jakob Cayne struck out five and allowed five hits and two earned runs in a complete game to lead No. 3 Lawrence Woodmere (9-7) past No. 4 Brooklyn Friends in the PSAA championship at MCU Park in Brooklyn.
