Olivia Roberto, a 13-year-old girl, is pitching and hitting well for the baseball team at Merrick Avenue Middle School. The eighth-grader became the first girl in school history to play for the baseball team. Roberto is no longer under the radar. She was selected to participate in the Trailblazer Series, an event run by Major League Baseball, in conjunction with USA Baseball, which gives girls the opportunity to play baseball. The event, held in Los Angeles during Easter weekend, targeted girls with a strong desire and passion to play baseball. (Credit: Newsday / Thomas A. Ferrara; Patrick McCarthy)
