25 boys bowlers to watch in 2018-19

Noah Axinn, Middle Country, Sr.: Axinn, who attends Newfield, averaged 213.5 as a junior and threw a 300 at the Suffolk team championships.

Willie Bedoya, Clarke, Sr.: Bedoya had the sixth-best average in Nassau last year with a 206.9.

Parker Chang, St. Dominic, Sr.: Chang has the second-highest average of returning bowlers in the CHSAA with a 200.

John Clark, Sachem, So.: The Sachem East sophomore had the highest total wood (8634) for the Flaming Arrows last season.

Justin DiMaggio, Sachem, Sr.: DiMaggio, who attends Sachem East, had the highest average for the combined Sachem team with a 214.6 as a junior.

Brandon Epp, Rocky Point, Jr.: Epp had the ninth-highest average in Suffolk last year with a 221.2 and rolled 11 games of at least 225 or better.

Sam Farber, Bellmore-Merrick, Sr.: The Calhoun senior averaged 203 last season.

Christian Freel, Chaminade, Jr.: Freel won the CHSAA MVP as a sophomore and finished with the highest average in the CHSAA with a 212.

Nicholas Giovanniello, West Babylon, Sr.: Giovanniello rolled a 300 in his first match of the season and averaged 217.6 last year.

Joe Guido, Patchogue-Medford, Sr.: The senior had a 299 high game last season and led the Raiders with a 217.1 average.

Frank Iemma, Plainedge, Sr.: Iemma led Nassau with a 222.92 average and was a member of Newsday’s 2017-2018 All-Long Island team.

Paul Igel, Chaminade, Sr.: Igel is a three-year starter for the Flyers and currently has a 208 average.

Zane Lipson, Hewlett, Sr.: The senior rolled a 300 in his first match of the season as part of a 698 series.

Avery Lugares, Commack, Sr.: Lugares finished 10th in Suffolk with a 220.8 average and had a 742 high series.

Jeremy Lutsky, Commack, Sr.: Lutsky won 25 of the 30 games he bowled against his opponents and threw at least 12 games of 200 or better as a junior.

Phil Macchietto, Mineola, Fr.: Macchietto had a six-game high series of 1,203 for Nassau at last year’s state championships. He also finished second at the individual county championship.

Cavan McCabe, Lindenhurst, Jr.: The junior bowled 19 games of 200 or better and was tied for fifth in Suffolk with 29 match points last season.

Steve McClelland, Plainedge, Sr.: McClelland captured the Nassau individual title last season when he bowled a 1,165 six-game series.

Damian Millsap, Patchogue-Medford, Jr.: Millsap tied for the second-highest game in Suffolk last season with a 299 and averaged 209.6.

Nick Olsen, Farmingdale, Sr.: As a junior, Olsen finished with the fifth-best average in Nassau with a 208.4.

Kyle Perillo, Smithtown, Fr.: The Smithtown East freshman averaged 214.7 in 14 games last season and bowled a 300 in Smithtown’s second match this year.

Sonny Pico, East Islip, Jr.: Pico rolled the third-highest series in Suffolk last year with a 789 and averaged 221.5.

Aaron Rice, East Islip, Sr.: The senior was named Newsday’s Boys Bowler of the Year last season and finished with the highest average on Long Island with a 233.3.

Stephen Russell, Central Islip, Fr.: Russell bowled a 300 as an eighth-grader and had 10 series of 600 or better.

Zach Weller, Comsewogue, Sr.: The senior had a high series of 750 and averaged 213.6 in 36 games last year.
