Griffin Halpern’s three-pointer lifts Syosset over Plainview JFK

Griffin Halpern made a three-pointer with nine seconds remaining to give Syosset a two-point lead in its 55-53 win over Plainview JFK in the first round of the Wantagh Booster Club boys basketball tournament last night. Halpern finished with 16 points. Robert Kula also had 16 and James Dionisio had eight points and 11 rebounds.

St. John the Baptist 70, Sachem 53: Keanu Brewster scored 18 points to lead St. John the Baptist in non-league. Matt Lavin scored 17 points. Kyle Locastro scored 12.

Riverhead 68, Mercy 33: Robert Tyre had nine points and 11 rebounds, Christian Pace had 13 points and Williams Sanders added four points and eight assists to lead Riverhead (1-1) in non-league.

Greenport 87, Ross 38: Julian Swann had 29 points and 13 rebounds to lead Greenport (1-1) in non-league. Ahkee Anderson had 17 points and 11 rebounds.

Lawrence Woodmere Academy 73, Long Beach 29: Aidan Igiehon had 17 points, 11 rebounds and five blocks to lead Lawrence Woodmere (4-0) in non-league. Jordan Dingle added 19 points and Tyler Furcy and Terrin Roy each had 13 points.

Greenport 87, Ross 38: Julian Swann had 29 points and 13 rebounds to lead Greenport (1-1) in non-league. Ahkee Anderson had 17 points and 11 rebounds.


West Babylon 45, North Babylon 41: Shannon McGuire scored 22 points to lead West Babylon (2-1) in non-league. Brittany Claud added 12 points.

St. Dominic 38, Malverne 29: Sarah Buonaguro had 16 points, three assists and two rebounds leading St. Dominic over Malverne in a non-league game. Catherine McAuliffe had eight points, one assist and nine rebounds. Jill Mayr had three points and seven rebounds.

Hauppauge 74, Northport 64: Mary McKenna had 22 points and 12 rebounds in Hauppauge’s non-league opener Sunday night. Katie Murphy added 22 points and eight assists and Kaitlin Cronin had nine points.

Longwood 56, Riverhead 44: Zorria West had 17 points and 11 rebounds in Longwood’s non-league opener. Nyia Longford added 14 points and nine rebounds. Janelle Brown (six points) went 5-for-6 from the free-throw line in the final three minutes.

Ward Melville 71, Central Islip 57: Lauren Hansen had 22 points and seven assists to lead Ward Melville in the Suffolk County Coaches Association Tournament at Kings Park High School. Julia Coletti had 14 points. Taylor Tripptree had five points and 12 rebounds. Bre Cohn scored 13 points.

Port Jefferson 59, Southold 41: Courtney Lewis had 27 points, eight rebounds and four assists to lead Port Jefferson in a Suffolk VII opener. Jackie Brown had 12 points, five rebounds and five assists. Jillian Colucci had 12 points with three assists and three rebounds.

Center Moriches 45, Stony Brook 16: Kristina Baldanza had 20 points, nine rebounds and two assists to lead Center Moriches in a Suffolk VII opener. Samantha Gangi had 10 points, five rebounds and one assist. Sabrina Scurria had eight points, four assists and one rebound.

Calhoun 53, Great Neck North 32: Honora Campbell scored 15 points in the non-league win. Katie Healy added 13 points for Calhoun (2-0).

Jericho 61, West Hempstead 32: Jade Stoler had 16 points and five assists and Rebecca Silverman added 12 points to lead Jericho (1-1) in non-league.

West Islip 48, Wyandanch 36: Peyton Ryan recorded 11 points to lead West Islip (1-1) in non-league. Julia Varley and Bella Greenwald each had 10 points.


Kellenberg 2, St. John the Baptist 1: Michael Repoli shot a 213 in the second game of a 592 series to lead Kellenberg (2-1), 1070-1035, 1023-1038, 1035-948, in CHSAA.

Hewlett 3, Oceanside 0: Matt LeBlanc bowled a 223 in the middle game of a 638 series in a 779-472, 827-539, 783-476 Suffolk V win for Hewlett (3-0).

Seaford 3, Lynbrook 0: Ashley DiNapoli had a 213 in the first game of a 592 series, Chris Mirer had a 214 in the second game of a 598 series and eighth grader Joe Ledesky had a 223 in the first game to lead Seaford (2-1) in Nassau V, 786-561, 682-542, 723-590.


Kellenberg 2, St. John the Baptist 1: Alexis Kotandisis shot a 194 in the third game of a 457 series to lead Kellenberg (2-0) in CHSAA, 731-742, 736-715, 911-784.

Northport 3, Copiague 0: Emily Faltings bowled a 154 in the middle game of a 445 series in the 674-547, 683-486, 644-524 Suffolk II win. Francesca Soletti rolled a 184 in the second game of a 433 series.

MacArthur 3, Division 0: Amanda Petrillo rolled a 203 in the third game of a 529 series to lead MacArthur (2-0) to a 563-427, 650-422, 683-505 win in Nassau VII. Skye Mollica shot a 190 in the second game of a 519 series.
