Sorrentino's perfect game sets pace for East Islip

Freshman Lena Sorrentino rolled a 300 in Game 2 of a 756 series for East Islip in a 1,037-612, 1,164-553, 1,069-629 win over West Islip yesterday in Suffolk League I girls bowling. Sorrentino rolled a 232 in Game 1 and a 224 in Game 3. She also had a perfect game Dec. 10 against Islip.

Also for East Islip, Nancy Baione had a 236 in Game 1 of a 704 series and Nikki Wilson had a 223 in Game 2 of a 639 series. Rebecca Sonkin added a 226 in her only game for EI.

Islip 3, West Babylon 0: Colleen Hinrichs rolled a high of 220 in Game 2 of a 603 series for Islip in a 862-720, 945-734, 776-768 win in League I.North Babylon 2, Smithtown 1: Abigail Casale had a 189 in Game 3 of a 555 series for North Babylon in a 757-866, 921-727, 950-789 win over Smithtown. Sarah Rubinson rolled a 235 in Game 2 for North Babylon.Commack 3, Copiague 0: Nicole Guidice rolled a 190 in Game 1 of a 522 series, Sabina Mehmood had a 177 in Game 3 of a 520 series and Alanna Norotsky had a 192 in Game 3 of a 508 series for Commack in an 842-586, 815-616, 850-739 win.

Longwood 3, Eastport-South Manor 0: Freshman Brianna Meyer bowled a 210 in Game 3 to lead Longwood to a 789-689, 840-616, 880-703 victory in League II.

Bellport 3, Patchogue-Medford 0: Caitlin Colichio had a 205 in Game 2 of a 534 series for Bellport in a 783-700, 733-643, 868-776 win.

Sachem East 2, Ward Melville 1: Nikki Goodman rolled a 197 in Game 2 of a 445 series and Chrissy Malinowski had a 192 in Game 2 of a 498 series for Sachem East in a 644-604, 704-555, 611-653 win.

Oceanside 69, Massapequa 63: Down eight with 53 seconds to go in regulation, Oceanside forced overtime on a Matt Young three-pointer with 0.7 seconds left and went on to win in Conference AA-II. Gene Garay had five of his 25 points in overtime and Greg Gilbert hit a go-ahead three in OT. Mike Bonomo also had 25 points and 11 rebounds for Oceanside (3-0). Massapequa is 2-1.Hicksville 75, Great Neck South 61: Senior Uche Ogbonna had a career-high 25 points and added 12 rebounds to lead Hicksville (2-1) in Conference AA-II. John Petrucelli added 22 points and eight rebounds for Hicksville.

Herricks 50, Long Beach 43: Dennis Vamvakas scored 15 of his 22 points in a 32-21 second half for Herricks (1-2) in AA-II. Shaan Rahi had 17 points, 18 rebounds, five assists and five blocked shots. Herricks went 9-for-9 from the free-throw line.

Baldwin 83, Valley Stream Central 63: Dominique Aberdeen had 20 points, eight rebounds, five assists and five steals for Baldwin (1-2) in Conference AA-I, and Donte Howell 12 points, five rebounds and six steals for the Bruins. Ashanti DePass had 12 points, four assists and five steals for Baldwin and T'Ziah Wood-Smith had nine points and eight rebounds. Marc Augustin scored a game-high 28 points for Valley Stream Central (0-2).

Hempstead 65, Carey 50: Ismael Pierre had 17 points, 14 rebounds, eight steals and eight assists to lead Hempstead (5-1) in AA-I. Jordan Parks had a team-high 19 points for Hempstead. Terrance Murchie led Carey with 24.Syosset 77, Freeport 65: Spencer Hazan had a game-high 25 points to lead Syosset (3-0) in Conference AA-III. Matt Quinn chipped in 16 points and Brett Schwartz 13. Leondre Simmon led Freeport with 16 points.

Plainview JFK 65, Mepham 28: Corey Maiorana had 12 points and five assists and Zach Amateau eight points and 10 assists for Plainview JFK (3-0) in AA-III.Waldorf 56, Solomon Schechter 52: Landon Twine had 27 points, 10 rebounds and three blocks for Waldorf (4-1) in IPPSAL. Brandon Verise-Kohan had 12 points and 12 rebounds for Waldorf. Marc Canarick had 19 points for Solomon Schechter (4-2).

GIRLS BASKETBALLMattituck 39, East Islip 31: Catherine Wilcenski had 10 points and 10 rebounds to lead Mattituck (6-2) in non-league. Laura Hill led all scorers with 12 points for EI.
