Ahern's late three gives Chaminade win

Thomas Ahern's three-pointer with a minute left gave Chaminade a 52-51 win over Beach Channel (Queens) Saturday in a non-league boys basketball game.

The Flyers had trailed 29-18 at halftime and Ahern (six points) gave them their first lead of the second half with the three. Senior Patrick Farrell had 13 points and 14 rebounds for his first career double-double, and John Gallego added 12 points and four assists for Chaminade.

Islip 82, Westhampton 67: Brian Pitt scored 21 points and Donte McCarthy had 18 points and 12 rebounds to lead Islip in the consolation of the Islip Holiday Tournament. Mike Doersam added 13 points and 12 rebounds.

Kellenberg 57, John Bowne 31: Jeremy Arthur had 19 points, eight rebounds and six assists for Kellenberg in the Long Island Challenge at St. Dominic. Kevin Bowles added 19 points and six rebounds.


Commack 45, Shoreham-Wading River 40: Kerry Haller scored seven of her 11 points in the fourth quarter to lead Commack. Haller's putback with 1:50 left gave the Cougars a 41-40 lead. Melissa Lobaccaro had 13 points and 12 rebounds, and Erin Storck 12 points, five assists and five steals.

Smithtown West 42, Bayport-Blue Point 38: Siobhan Kehoe had 11 points and Melissa Meyers 10 to lead Smithtown West. Savannah Miller's two free throws gave the Bulls a 42-35 lead with 10 seconds left. Miller had six points and five assists. Cassie Dooley scored 16 points, including four three-pointers, for Bayport-Blue Point.

Valley Stream South 44, Hewlett 36: Sophomore Janise Hernandez had 20 points and 10 rebounds for her first career double-double and added a career-high seven steals to lead Valley Stream South.

Our Lady of Mercy 48, Center Moriches 33: Marilyn Lehmuller had 13 points and four steals to lead OLMA in the St. John's Under Armour Tournament. Freshman Sam Lynch had a career-high 11 points and seven rebounds.

Sacred Heart 50, Long Beach 27: Ally Rosenthal had 13 points and five rebounds, and Jenna Pasquale 11 points and four rebounds for Sacred Heart.
