Augustus scores 20 in Central Islip win

Central Islip (7-2) kicked off the second half with a 12-0 run to help it erase a 21-4 second-quarter deficit and defeat Connetquot, 65-53, in League II Saturday. Reginald Augustus scored eight of his 20 points and had two steals in the third quarter, and Tim McKenzie had six of his 10 points in that pivotal 26-11 quarter. Ryan Reidy scored 20 points for Connetquot. Central Islip clinched a Class AA playoff berth.

Bay Shore 70, Northport 56: Bryson Lassiter had 17 points and seven rebounds for Bay Shore (5-3) in League II. Bruce Thompson had 14 points and 12 rebounds and Devin Farmer 13 points and 10 rebounds.

Lindenhurst 71, Commack 61: Stu Warren had 10 of his 27 points in a 23-18 fourth quarter and also had 13 rebounds, and Rob Balkam had 15 points and five rebounds for Lindenhurst (4-4) in League I. Marc Nebhard had 17 points for Commack.

Newfield 58, Centereach 44: Ivan Kemp had 16 points, Nana Nsiahyeboah 12 points and nine assists and Matt Knapp 10 points and 11 rebounds for Newfield (3-5) in League III. Mike Weidemann had 20 points for Centereach.

Copiague 65, Smithtown East 57: Jeremiah Aponte (12 rebounds) scored five of his 10 points in an 11-3 overtime period to lead Copiague (8-0) in League III. P.J. Page had 23 points and Devine Clinton 10. Jon Feiler (17 points) hit a three-pointer with four seconds left to tie the score at 54 for Smithtown East. Huntington 52, Comsewogue 47: Pat Reilly hit a three-pointer with two minutes left and Tion Herion scored on a jump shot with 1:30 remaining to put Huntington (2-6) up by four in League IV. P.J. White had 20 points and 12 rebounds for Huntington. Ken Scotland had 23 points for Comsewogue. Uniondale 47, Massapequa 41: Shaquille Mosley had 14 points and six assists and Roderick Epps 12 points, seven rebounds and two assists for Uniondale (6-2) in Conference AA-I. Ryan VanBuren had 16 points for Massapequa.

Hampton Bays 56, Miller Place 52: Cameron Booth hit a three-pointer with 2:18 left in overtime and hit two foul shots with 6.3 seconds left to seal the win for Hampton Bays (6-8) in non- league. Miller Place's Steve Jackolski tied the game at 48 on a putback at the buzzer. Booth finished the game with 23 points and three assists.

Seaford 74, Mineola 59: Robert Goldstein had 13 of his 35 points in the fourth quarter and had seven assists for Seaford (4-2) in Conference A-IV. Mineola's James Bulva had 21 points.girls basketball

North Babylon 78, Riverhead 68: Freshman Charise Wilson had six of North Babylon's 13 points in double-overtime and had her second career triple-double with 27 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists for the Bulldogs (9-0) in League III. North Babylon's Tamara Simpson's layup with two seconds left in the first overtime tied the score at 65 and Brianna Jones made a 15-footer in the closing seconds of regulation to send the game to overtime. Simpson had 12 points and 11 rebounds, Mary Chisholm had her first career double-double with 11 points and 14 rebounds and Jones had eight points for the Bulldogs. Jalyn Brown had 24 points, Kaila Nazario 20 points and Shaniece Allen 11 points for Riverhead.

Connetquot 54, Central Islip 51: Jessica Cordano hit a three-pointer with about three minutes remaining in the third quarter to tie the score at 39 and Dana Broschart's layup gave Connetquot (5-3) the lead for good in League II. Cordano finished with 13 points, and Broschart also had 11 points and five assists. Ericka Ellwanger scored 11 of her 17 points in a 17-8 second quarter for Connetquot.

Janiece Jenkins scored 23 points for Central Islip. 13

Hauppauge 44, West Babylon 40: Lauren Descalzo scored nine of her 18 points in a 19-12 fourth quarter to lead Hauppauge (6-2) in the comeback win in League VI. The Eagles trailed by as many as eight with five minutes left. Hauppauge clinched a Class AA playoff berth for the first time in 14 years. Stephanie Peragallo added 11 points and 18 rebounds. Huntington 45, Comsewogue 35: Jackie Waldron had 18 points and 12 rebounds and Emma Hayes-Hurley 14 points, nine rebounds and eight assists for Huntington (3-5) in League IV.
