We’ll see how good two of Long Island’s best teams really are on Monday when L.I. Lutheran and Half Hollow Hills West play New York City powerhouses as part of the annual MLK Day Big Apple Classic at Baruch College.

At 2:45 p.m., Long Island Lutheran will face Rice (Manhattan). The Crusaders are led by Villanova-bound Achraf Yacoubou and Hofstra-bound Jordan Allen. Rice features Cincinnati-bound Jermaine Sanders.

At 4:30 p.m. Half Hollow Hills West will meet Lincoln (Brooklyn). The Railsplitters are 11-0 and will present a serious challenge up front with 7-0 Jordan Dickerson and 6-9 Kamari Murphy. The Colts feature 5-8 guard Tavon Sledge, who will play at Iowa State. Sledge was the MVP of last year’s Big Apple prime-time matchup between Hills West and Bishop Loughlin, scoring 21 points in an exciting overtime game that featured McDonald's All-Americans Tobias Harris (pictured) and Jayvaughn Pinkston.

I’ll be covering the games for Newsday. Look for my stories on line and in Tuesday’s print edition.
