Boys basketball roundup: Hagigal propels Westbury to OT victory

Sheldon Hagigal, who had 28 points and 11 rebounds, scored on an underneath move off an inbounds play with 10 seconds remaining in overtime to put Westbury ahead by two, and the Green Dragons held on to defeat host South Side, 65-64, Friday in a Nassau Conference ABC-I boys basketball game.

South Side missed the back end of a one-and-one with .7 seconds remaining in OT. Tyrece Redd tipped in a rebound at the buzzer in regulation to force overtime for Westbury (5-2). Brett Cohen had 19 points to lead South Side (5-2).Uniondale 55, Carey 44: Roderick Epps had 13 points and nine rebounds and Bolade Akingboye added seven points and 11 rebounds for Uniondale (9-1) in Conference AA-I. Terrance Murchie scored 20 points for Carey (2-7).

Farmingdale 51, Valley Stream Central 46: Dalique Mingo scored 21 points and had nine assists and Chris Richards added 10 rebounds for Farmingdale (5-6) in AA-I. Marc Augustin scored 22 points for Valley Stream Central (4-6).

Hempstead 71, Port Washington 51: Ismael Pierre had 19 points and seven rebounds and Marquis Posey added 18 points and four steals for Hempstead (5-5). Adam Epstein scored 20 points for Port Washington (2-9).Massapequa 46, Great Neck South 35: Michael Donohue had 15 points and Patrick Meehan had 15 rebounds for Massapequa (6-4) in AA-II.GNS is 3-6.

Oceanside 55, Long Beach 52: Gene Garay scored 19 of his 21 points in the second half and Greg Gilbert broke a tie with a three-pointer with three minutes left for the Sailors (9-1), who led the rest of the way. Mike Bonomo added 21 points and 11 rebounds for Oceanside. Long Beach is 0-9.Bellmore JFK 58, Freeport 54: Joey Karo (18 points) scored seven of Bellmore JFK's final 10 points, including a three-pointer to tie it at 51 and a pair of free throws that gave the Cougars (7-2) the lead for good at 53-51 in AA-III. Jared Stato (20 points) hit a three-pointer with 3:40 remaining to give Freeport (5-5) a 49-46 lead. The Red Devils had trailed by 15 in the first half.Malverne 70, Valley Stream South 65: DaShawn Moorer hit a three-pointer with 41 seconds remaining to put Malverne (5-2) ahead 68-65 in ABC-II. Moorer (23 points) hit three three-pointers in Malverne's 23-11 fourth quarter. Xavier Bernard (21 points, eight rebounds, seven assists) had four three-pointers in the first quarter. Obinna Nwaigwe scored 18 points for Valley Stream South (3-4).Seaford 60, Glen Cove 58: Robert Goldstein (24 points) hit two free throws with 3.5 seconds remaining for Seaford (5-2) and Glen Cove's Owen Valance missed a long three-pointer at the buzzer in ABC-IV. Matt Faso scored seven of his 13 points in the fourth quarter for Seaford. Garen Spendjian led Glen Cove (4-3) with 18 points.North Shore 64, Division 60:Justin Bell scored 23 points, including three free throws in the final minute, to help seal it for North Shore (2-5). Stefan Schwartz added 18 points for North Shore. Division is 2-5.

Kings Park 55, Huntington 44: Nick Borkowski scored 12 of his 17 points in the second half and Chris Koop added 10 rebounds for Kings Park (7-4) in League V. John Patron scored 20 points for Huntington (2-8).

Hauppauge 67, Islip 53: Christian Gonzalez had 20 points, eight rebounds and three steals to lead Hauppauge (6-5). The Eagles rallied from a 12-point deficit and tied it at 47 at the end of the third quarter, then outscored Islip 20-6 in the fourth. Bobby Vitulano added 13 points for Hauppauge.

Miller Place 61, Amityville 46: Taylor Sowah scored 24 points in the first half and added six assists as Miller Place (9-2) moved past Amityville (8-3) and took over second place in League VI. Tim Lutz had 16 points and Brian Campbell added 11 for Miller Place. Darien Croft led Amityville with 15 points.
