Cavallo leads Hampton Bays boys victory

Bruno Cavallo's layup after recovering a loose ball with 11 seconds left gave Hampton Bays a one-point lead and Cavallo added a free throw with four seconds left in a 49-47 win over East Rockaway Tuesday in the Hampton Bays boys basketball holiday tournament. Cavallo had 23 points and seven rebounds. Cameron Booth added 12 points and five assists. Hampton Bays will face Southold in the final at 2 p.m. today.

Sachem North 60, Floyd 59: Vinny Vacanti scored the last seven points, including the front end of a one-and-one with 2.4 seconds left to win it for Sachem North (3-5) in the final of the Kings Park Tournament. Devon Lawrence grabbed his 11th rebound of the night off the miss to seal the victory. Vacanti had 17 points and was named tournament MVP. John Ford added 12 points and was named to the all-tournament team.

Kings Park 51, Wyandanch 43: Sean McCarthy had 20 points to lead Kings Park (6-1) in the consolation game of the Kings Park Tournament. Nick Borkowski had 13 points and four assists and Joe Konopski had eight points and 12 rebounds.

Babylon 51, West Islip 48:Gioncarlo Marotta had eight of his 17 points in the fourth quarter and added eight rebounds to lead Babylon (3-3) in non-league. Marotta's two free throws with 18 seconds left created the final margin. Will DuPre added 12 points and five rebounds. Nicky Galasso scored 11 of his game-high 23 points in the fourth quarter for West Islip.

Brentwood 66, North Babylon 51: Michael Rollins had 20 points and 13 rebounds and Brandon Smith had 14 points and 10 rebounds for Brentwood (6-2) in the Brentwood Holiday Tournament. Brentwood will host Uniondale in the final at 6 p.m. Wednesday.

Hewlett 70, Pine Bush (Section IX) 54: Senior Michael Eckerle scored a career-high 30 points and added 13 rebounds to lead Hewlett (5-1) in the O'Neill Tournament in Highland Falls, N.Y. C.J. Brady added 12 points and seven assists and Dylan Pastor had 11 points and 12 rebounds. Hewlett will play in the final at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

Chaminade 61, Manhasset 41: Thomas Morgan had 15 points, seven assists and five rebounds to lead Chaminade (5-2) in the Chaminade Christmas Tournament. Kevin Hargrove added 13 points and seven rebounds and Dan Vanderhoef had 10 points and four assists. Chaminade will face Westbury in the final at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
