Leading by double-digits for the entire second half, Floyd fought off a late Sachem East rally behind point guard Malik Dennis' 11 fourth quarter points to win 74-61 Saturday in Suffolk League I boys basketball.
Up 49-31 after the third, Sachem East (0-3) got hot in the fourth and cut Floyd's lead to as low as 10. Dennis though remained composed at the point, avoiding turnovers and sinking 5 of 6 free throws down the stretch to ensure the victory.
Floyd (3-0) had four players score in double figures with Dennis leading the way with 15.
Anthony White and LaShon Washington each tallied 14 points and Devonte Dixon scored 11. White also had 11 rebounds and three blocks, and Dennis added five steals.
Coach Jim Casey said Dennis' play in the fourth on both ends of the floor allowed Floyd to hold for the win.
"[Dennis] made key decisions at key times and had a majority of his steals in that fourth quarter," Casey said. "He's a senior who's earned his way and it's good to see him contribute."
