East Rockaway's Damian Amiruddin had done it 100 times. Each afternoon, as practice winds down, the Rocks line up at the free-throw line.

It's the daily monotony that comes with being a high school basketball player. Only, instead of just rushing through shots to head home for a hot dinner, coach Joe Lores puts a little spin on it.

"I have them close their eyes and envision a scoreboard with them down by one," Lores said. "I want them to put themselves in that moment."

Amiruddin executed the moment perfectly on Friday night, hitting both ends of a one-and-one with 3.7 seconds remaining in East Rockaway's 62-61 overtime win over Oyster Bay.

"It's a great atmosphere up there," Lores said. "It's two pressure packed situations. If he makes one of two, it's a different situation. If he doesn't make any, it's another different situation."

The gravity of the shots hit home when Oyster Bay sank a shot as time expired, a potential winner if Amiruddin had not hit both.

Daniel Fusco scored 23 points in the win. Kevin Blessington added 16 points and 21 rebounds for East Rockaway (1-2) in Conference B/C. Oyster Bay is 1-2.
