Friends Academy captured the Nassau Class C boys basketball title with a thrilling 53-52 overtime win against East Rockaway late Saturday night at SUNY-Old Westbury.
T.J. Hefele, who led the Quakers with 17 points, tied the score on a putback as time expired in regulation to force overtime. Josh Feshbach then converted a three-point play with 13 seconds left in OT to give Friends the one-point lead and the win.
Tommy Costa added 13 points for top-seeded Friends (12-6), which advances to the Long Island Class C final to be played March 9 at 5 p.m. at Bay Shore.
Dylan Giliberti gave No. 2 East Rockaway a 43-31 lead with seven seconds left in the regulation on a putback of his own. Joe Todero led the Rocks with 20 points. They finish the season 16-2.
