On a night where they shared the backcourt for the final time after their season came to a sudden and disappointing end, seniors Khaleev Ginyard and Joe Gibbons each set one last personal milestone.
Both scored the 1,000th point of their careers during St. John the Baptist 72-69 loss to Holy Trinity in the CHSAA semifinals.
Ginyard – who put on a dazzling display from downtown, hitting nine three-pointers and finished with a career-high 40 points – eclipsed the 1,000-point mark on his first shot of the game, nailing a three-pointer in the game’s first minute.
Gibbons scored 19 points, including a free throw with 1:02 remaining in the first quarter for his 1,000th point.
Ginyard and Gibbons become the fourth and fifth players in St. John the Baptist's 46-year history to reach the 1,000-point mark and it’s the first time the Cougars had two 1,000-point scorers on the same team, according to athletic director Ralph Dalton.
An announcement was made after the game to honor their achievements.
