Guardado's three-pointer lifts Whitman past Lindenhurst

Daniel Guardado hit a three-pointer with 1:30 left in overtime to break a tie and Whitman scored the final six points to beat visiting Lindenhurst, 60-54, Thursday in League II.

"Danny's our best three-point shooter and we have confidence in him to knock it down, and he stepped up," coach Tom Fitzpatrick said.

Kamil Parzych (22 points) tied it at 54 in overtime for Lindenhurst (7-2) with less than two minutes left before Guardado's shot. K.J. Lee was 4-for-4 from the free-throw line in overtime, including the last three points.

"We had to do it the hard way," Fitzpatrick said. "They're a good team, and we knew it wasn't going to be easy. But our guys stepped up and played a good fifth quarter."

Brian Jimenez, Myles Jones and Anthony Aikhuble each scored 12 points for Whitman (6-3).

Parzych hit a layup with 11 seconds left in regulation to tie it at 50 and force overtime.

"My assistant coach said it best - the kid's a warrior," Fitzpatrick said. "Someone's going to get a great player. He plays hard, there's no excuses out of him."
