Hornedo's late surge leads Central Islip win

Brandon Hornedo scored all six of his points during a late fourth-quarter run that gave the Musketeers a 10-point lead as Central Islip beat Sachem North, 64-63, Saturday in Suffolk League II boys basketball. Anthony Beuttner scored all nine of his points in the fourth quarter for Sachem North and Brian Ford (nine points) hit a three with less than a second left to create the final margin.

Tim McKenzie had 16 points and 15 rebounds and Reginald Augustus had 17 points and 10 assists for Central Islip (6-1). Vinny Vacanti had 17 points for Sachem North.

Lindenhurst 65, Patchogue-Medford 49: Stu Warren had 25 points and 12 rebounds and Brandon Hauser 18 points for Lindenhurst (3-4) in League I. Severio Ford had 21 points for Patchogue-Medford.

Floyd 53, Ward Melville 43: Aaron Willis scored 17 of his 21 points in the third quarter and had six steals to lead Floyd (6-1) in League I. Anthony White added 14 points, 10 rebounds and three blocks. Gorkem Osman scored 12 points for Ward Melville.

Greenport 62, Mattituck 59: Dantre Langhorne had 23 points, 15 rebounds and eight assists to lead Greenport (11-0) in non-league. Tremayne Hansen added 14 points and 10 rebounds. Steve Ascher had 16 points for Mattituck.

Bayport-Blue Point 68, Rocky Point 49: Ross Drzal had 23 points and five assists to lead Bayport-Blue Point (11-2) in non-league. Gary Farley added 14 points and 12 rebounds and Mike Falkenburgh had six assists. Steve Soltysik scored 18 points for Rocky Point.


Tuskan rolls in tournament.

East Islip's Eddy Tuskan bowled a 778 series to win the singles title in the Suffolk Singles & Doubles Tournament at Sayville Lanes on Friday. Rob Samuels (Comsewogue) finished second with a 760. East Islip's Joe Griffin took third (750), Bellport's Sean Millsap fourth (748) and Islip's Bryan Greenblatt placed fifth with a 721.

The Riverhead tandem of Anthony Trent and Jonathan Horton won the doubles competition, combining to shoot a 404 in a head-to-head final against Whitman. Jonathan Ross and Sean Sondermann had a 391 to earn second place for the Wildcats.

The Longwood duo of David Lenzi and Michael Karolewski topped Patchogue-Medford's Steven Welsh and David Crescent in the consolation match, 451-426.
