A player and a coach each reached milestones Thursday.
Long Island Lutheran junior Achraf Yacoubou reached 1,000 career points in a 73-56 win over Chaminade, and Lawrence Woodmere Academy coach Jeff Weiss got his 400th coaching victory.
Yacoubou, had 24 points and four assists to lead Lutheran (16-6), and got his 1,000th point on a three-pointer with .9 seconds left in the third quarter.
Weiss' LWA team defeated The Browning School, 74-63, behind 25 points from Edwin Sainvil. LWA is now 23-1. Here's more information about Weiss from a recent story from the paper. He's coached the team since 1988.
In other news for Lutheran, starting point guard Mike Florin (ankle) has returned for the Crusaders after a month-plus absence due to the injury. Florin had 16 points in the Chaminade win and in his first game back against East Longmeadow (Ma.) he had 14 points in a 78-60 comeback victory.
