White goes Division I

Catching up on some basketball news ...

Anthony White of Floyd, a Newsday All-Long Island first team selection last season, has committed to St. Francis of Brooklyn, a Division I school which plays in the Northeast Conference. White, a 6-3 swingman who is expected to play guard in college, achieved a double-double in every game last season. He averaged 18.9 points and a Suffolk-best 14.2 rebounds, along with 5.2 assists and 4.3 blocks.

All-star wrapup: Emile Blackman of Half Hollow Hills West scored 30 points and was voted MVP as Suffolk defeated Nassau, 110-93, in the second Alzeimer’s Classic on Oct. 22 at Molloy College in Rockville Center. Daniel Pierriot of St. Anthony’s had 18 points and Bryson Lassiter of Bay Shore added 16. Shaq Mosley of Uniondale led Nassau with 25 points and Brandon Williams of Baldwin chipped in 18 … Kentan Facey of L.I. Lutheran scored 26 points but the Burbs were beaten by the Boros, 119-105, in the eighth Metro Classic on Oct. 30 at Archbishop Molloy in Queens. Omar Calhoun of Christ the King led the Boros with 32 points and was voted MVP for the second straight year.
