Tom Sculley scores winning goal for Long Beach

Tom Sculley scored the winner with two seconds left to give (No. BI-2) Long Beach a 10-9 win over (No. B2-7) North Shore Monday in the first round of the Class B boys lacrosse playoffs. North Shore's Jack Goettelmann scored with 22 seconds left to tie the score. Long Beach will play (No. B2-3) South Side at 4:30 p.m. Friday at Hofstra in a quarterfinal.

Carey 18, Lawrence 11: Nick Spillane's four goals and five assists led (No. B1-3) Carey over (No. B2-6) Lawrence in the first round of the Class B playoffs. Dom Scorcia added two goals and six assists. Mike DeLeo and Tom Mayer each had three goals and an assist. Carey will play (No. B2-2) Manhasset at 4:30 p.m. Thursday at Hofstra in a quarterfinal.

Wantagh 15, Bethpage 11: Bruno Surace had five goals to lead (No. B1-4) Wantagh over (No. B2-5) Bethpage in the first round of the Class B playoffs. Bobby Casey had 14 saves. Wantagh will face (No. B2-1) Lynbrook at 6:30 p.m. Friday at Hofstra in a quarterfinal.

Lynbrook 13, Sewanhaka 3: Gordon Purdie had five goals to lead (No. B2-1) Lynbrook over (No. B1-8) Sewanhaka in the Class B first round. Owen Daly added two goals and one assist.

Hewlett 12, Herricks 9: Alex Vardaro had six goals and two assists to lead (No. B2-14) Hewlett over (No. B1-5) Herricks in the Class B first round. Hewlett will face (No. B1-1) Garden City at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Hofstra in a quarterfinal.
