Nick Franco's late goal lifts Lindenhurst

Nick Franco's goal with 3:36 remaining helped Lindenhurst (1-0) rally from a three-goal deficit to edge Islip, 14-13, in non-league boys lacrosse Monday. Franco finished with three goals and one assist. Dan Alazraki had five goals and an assist for Lindenhurst. Kieran Mullins had seven goals and four assists in the loss for Islip.

Mineola 12, Glen Cove 7: Brian Gaffney scored four goals for Mineola (1-0) in non-league play.

Mepham 15, West Hempstead 5: Matt Byrne's five goals led Mepham (1-0) in non-league.

Sayville 14, Connetquot 13: Andrew Gonzalez had five goals and Brett Daigle four goals and an assist as Sayville (1-0) overcame a 10-8 deficit in the third quarter in its season-opener. Spencer Andrews won 23 of 29 faceoffs in the win.

Girls Lacrosse

Our Lady of Mercy 15, Long Island Lutheran 11: Sophomore Samantha Lynch had a career-high 11 points (eight goals, three assists) and Victoria Courtney and Claire Tully each added two goals and an assist to lead Our Lady of Mercy (1-0) in non-league.

Roslyn 10, St. Dominic 8: Allison Schneider (three goals, two assists) scored with 3:37 left in the game for Roslyn (1-0) in non-league. Callie Migden added two goals and two assists for Roslyn.


Glen Cove 5, Jericho 4:Senior Kayla Morrisey's three-run triple highlighted Glen Cove's (1-0) five-run first inning. Winning pitcher Carina Zupa went three innings, allowing only three hits. Morrissey finished 2-for-2. The non-league game was called after five innings because of weather conditions.
