Powell lifts Valley Stream Central to victory

Katherine Powell scored off a feed from Nicole Montana with 11 seconds left to lift Valley Stream Central to an 8-7 win over Wheatley in a Nassau Conference V girls lacrosse game Thursday.

Powell had six goals, Samantha Saad added two goals and Krysten Ahearne had 10 saves for Valley Stream Central. Samantha Sadd scored her second goal with 1:27 left to tie it at 7.

Carey 12, Elmont 7: Amanda Giarizzo scored seven goals and had two assists and Daina Cantanese added four goals and three assists for Carey in Conference V. Liz Garabedian had nine saves for Carey and Rowe had 10 saves for Elmont.Glen Cove 7, Malverne/East Rockaway 5: Chelsee Marks scored twice in the final 3:52 to win it for Glen Cove in Conference V.

Carle Place 17, Jericho 14: Alice Dawson and Taylor Martello each scored five goals to lead Carle Place in non-league.Middle Country 10, Connetquot 9: Jenna Agostino scored the winning goal at 3:16 for Middle Country in Suffolk League I. Britanny Choplain had eight saves.

East Islip 14, Brentwood 5: Victoria Gregson had four goals and Samantha Clyne added three for East Islip in League I. St. Dominic 15, St. Francis Prep 10: Nicole Caccioppo scored six goals and Katie O'Brien and Nicole Maher added three goals each for St. Dominic in CHSAA.boys

Baldwin 13, Lynbrook 12: Troy Dennis scored six goals, including the last three goals for Baldwin. Billy Diegnan won 17 of the 20 faceoffs and Bruins goalie Brett Dadiego made two big saves in the final minute to preserve the win. Bethpage 12, Plainview JFK 7: Ryan Walsh had six goals and an assist and Tom Englehardt added two assists and three assists in the first round of the Fran McCall tournament. Bethpage will play Friends Academy in the final on Saturday at 1 p.m.Friends Academy 10, Calhoun 5: Pat Burke had two of his four goals during a 5-1 third quarter for Friends Academy in the first round of the Fran McCall tournament. Quentin Dellafera added two goals and an assist in the win. Hewlett 6, Mepham 3: Michael Gray scored his second goal of the game with 9:20 left in the third to give Hewlett a 4-3 lead in non-league. Sam Martorella and Jake Posner each chipped in two goals in the win. Wheatley 14, Valley Stream District 8: Gregg Giordan (3) and Joe Wengler combined for five of Wheatley's first seven goals in the first quarter to lead Wheatley in non-league. Wengler finished with four goals and an assist and Giordano ended up with three goals and two assists. Dylan Sherman chipped in two goals and four assists in the win. Bayport-Blue Point 5, Westhampton 4: Brian Anderson scored to give Bayport-Blue Point a 5-4 lead with 4:02 remaining in Division II. Brian White added two goals and two assists in the win.
