Codispoti leads Chaminade to CHSAA final

Nick Codispoti had a goal and an assist to lead second-seeded Chaminade past third-seeded St. John the Baptist, 3-0, in the CHSAA boys soccer semifinals Monday.

Jon Stallone scored for Chaminade 2:30 into the second half on an assist from Codispoti to put the Flyers ahead by two. St. John the Baptist scored an own goal in the first half.

"Stallone hit an absolute pill into the goalkeeper's left-hand corner from about 25 yards out,'' Chaminade coach Mike Gallagher said. "He just crushed it.''

Codispoti's goal came on an assist from Giovanni LoMonaco at 69:18, increasing the Flyers' lead to three.

Ricky Berotti made two saves in the shutout for the Flyers.

Gallagher said Berotti made an exceptional save as St. John the Baptist increased pressure late in the game.

"They were throwing bodies forward,'' Gallagher said. "They launched a ball into the box and Rick made a good clearance, a good punch. He did a good job.''

Chaminade advances to play top-seeded St. Anthony's in the CHSAA final 6:30 p.m. on Saturday at Adelphi.

The teams met twice during the regular season, both scoreless ties.

"The big excitement will be when one team scores," Gallagher said.
