Hills West's Greenberg likely out for season

Undefeated Hills West (14-0-1, 13-0-0 League IV) will be in the playoffs and will likely be a top-4 seed. However the Colts will make their playoff run without star sophomore Dylan Greenberg.

Greenberg, a member of the U.S. U-15 boys team, broke his right ankle in Hills West’s 2-0 win over Comsewogue on Oct. 14 (37:15 mark).

Hills West coach Doug Gannon said he didn't initially think Greenberg was injured.

"It looked like a nothing play," Gannon said.

Gannon said Greenberg will be in a cast for four weeks, meaning the Colts would have to reach the state semifinals for Greenberg to even consider playing again this season.

“I don’t think the timing is going to work out,” Gannon said.

Greenberg, a natural defender, was a major contributor on offense for Hills West this season with nine goals and 10 assists.

Kevin Stanis has replaced Greenberg and has scored five goals and has one assist in four games, all shutout victories for the Colts.
