Willoughby puts Island Trees in Nassau 'A' semifinal

Andrew Willoughby scored the winner from 8 yards off Mike Gronenthal's indirect kick four minutes into the first overtime for No. 3 Island Trees in its 2-1 home win over No. 11 Jericho Tuesday in a Nassau Class A boys soccer quarterfinal. Nick Jorge scored off Willoughby's corner kick with nine minutes to play to tie the score at 1 for the Bulldogs (12-2-1). Zachary Cohen gave Jericho (7-7-3) a 1-0 lead midway through the first half on an assist from Glenn Hyams. Island Trees will play No. 2 South Side at 7:30 p.m. on Friday at Mitchel Athletic Complex in the semifinal round.


Sachem North 2, Connetquot 1: Lindsey Spatola scored the winner in overtime off Andrea Licostie's second assist of the game for No. 8 Sachem North (11-4) in a Suffolk Class A outbracket game. Victoria Schmidt added a goal, and Chelsea Palma made 11 saves. Sachem North will play at No. 1 Ward Melville at 2:30 p.m. Thursday in the quarterfinals. No. 9 Connetquot finishes its season 10-7.

Lindenhurst 2, Comsewogue 1: Jessica Jenson scored the winner on a scramble in front of the cage with 4:50 remaining in the second half for No. 10 Lindenhurst (10-5). Karina Fleming tied the score at 1 11:35 into the second half on an assist from Amber McCabe, and Olivia Dipalma made nine of her 19 saves in the second half. Lindenhurst will play at No. 2 Smithtown East at 2:30 p.m. Thursday in the quarterfinals. No. 7 Comsewogue finishes it season 10-7.

Massapequa 3, East Meadow 0: Kristin Yevoli scored two second-half goals and Kelsey O'Brien added another for No. 1 Massapequa (11-4) in a Nassau Class A semifinal. Massapequa will play No. 3 New Hyde Park at 4 p.m. Sunday at Adelphi in the final. No. 4 East Meadow finishes its season 6-9.

New Hyde Park 6, Port Washington 0: Lisa O'Callaghan and Michelle Polizzano each scored two goals for No. 3 New Hyde Park (11-4). Ana Bisciello and Kerri-Leigh Heesemann each added a goal and an assist. Priscila Paulose made eight saves in her ninth shutout of the season, and Mollie Stein had two assists. No. 2 Port Washington ends its season 9-6.
