Carle Place's Cole strikes out career-high 20

Senior Ashley Cole struck out a career-high 20 in a four-hitter as No. 1 Carle Place beat fourth-seeded Wheatley, 12-1, in a Nassau Class B softball semifinal Wednesdayat Mitchel Athletic Complex.

Leanne Iannucci went 3-for-4 with five RBIs, Tori Hytell had a solo homer and Amanda Machado went 3-for-4 with four runs for Carle Place (16-3), which faces No. 2 Oyster Bay in a best-of-three championship series beginning Monday at Mitchel.

Commack 14, Ward Melville 0: Kiersten Carlomagno threw a five-inning no-hitter with eight strikeouts and two walks to lead Commack (15-3) in Suffolk League I.

Holy Trinity 3, Our Lady of Mercy 0: Amanda LaRocca pitched a three-hitter with eight strikeouts and three walks for No. 5 Holy Trinity (10-12) in a CHSAA quarterfinal. Nikole Barbato scored on a wild pitch in the top of the seventh to give Holy Trinity a 3-0 lead.


MacArthur 5, Hicksville 0: Joe Chiaramonte struck out 11 in a four-hitter for No. 2 MacArthur in Game 1 of a Nassau Class AA best-of-three quarterfinal. Chris Pappas scored on an error to give MacArthur a 1-0 lead in the fifth.

Friends Academy 3, East Rockaway 2: Matt Feinstein drove in Alec Kucich from first with a double in the bottom of the seventh to win it for No. 2 Friends Academy (5-14) in Game 2 of the Nassau Class C championship series. The deciding Game 3 will be today at Adelphi at 4:15 p.m.

Elmont 6, Uniondale 0: Danny Aguilo threw a three-hitter with eight strikeouts for Elmont (13-4) in Nassau Countywide. Elmont clinched a berth in the Countywide championship against Great Neck South at SUNY-Farmingdale.


North Shore 9, Seaford 5: Nick Alverson had a goal and four assists and Dan Grabner had seven ground balls for No. 5 North Shore (11-5) in a Nassau Class C quarterfinal at Hofstra. North Shore will play No. 1 Cold Spring Harbor in a semifinal on Tuesday at Hofstra at 3:30 p.m.


Oceanside 5, Syosset 2: Erica Brook scored on a free position to give No. 4 Oceanside (10-6) a 5-0 lead in Nassau Class A first-round game. Jessica Maxwell had 10 saves for Oceanside, which will play No. 1 Farmingdale at Adelphi on Tuesday.


Valley Stream Central 4, Mepham 3:Thomas Zedzian and Kaushik Dudakia beat Blake Heller and Austin Tennenbaum 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 in the deciding third doubles match for No. 2 Valley Stream Central (14-2) in the Nassau Conference III Championship.


Jericho 6, Syosset 1:Annie Zhao and Katie Chan defeated Christine Lu and Kim Allen, 23-21, 21-8 at second doubles for No. 3 Jericho (9-4) in a Nassau quarterfinal. Jericho will play No. 2 Port Washington in a semifinal on Friday.
