Carle Place's Cole throws no-hitter

Ashley Cole tossed a no-hitter with no walks and 17 strikeouts Thursday as Carle Place remained undefeated in Nassau Conference ABC-II softball with a 5-0 win over Glen Cove.

Brooke Topel went 2-for-2 with a triple and three RBIs and Amanda Machado went 2-for-3 with a run in the win.

Bethpage 6, Clarke 5: Danielle Nendza scored on a wild pitch with two outs in the bottom of the ninth to win it for Bethpage (2-4) in Conference ABC-I. Nendza had two hits, including an RBI single in the fourth that tied it at 5. Kate Dorney allowed one run in 61/3 innings of relief to earn the win.Division 1, South Side 0: Alexis Alvino hit a solo homer in the sixth and Taylor Rosenthal struck out 14 in a one-hitter for Division (5-0) in Conference ABC-III.

Hauppauge 8, Centereach 4: Lauren Mendez's two-run single in the top of the eighth made it 6-4 for Hauppauge (7-1) in a Suffolk League III/IV crossover. Sandy Hawthorne followed with an RBI double and later scored to provide the final margin. BASEBALL

Garden City 3, Roslyn 0: David Butler threw a four-hitter with 10 strikeouts and Dan Sparacino's two-run single in the fifth made it 3-0 for Garden City (6-2) in a Nassau Conference A-I/II crossover.

Ward Melville 2, Patchogue-Medford 0: Anthony Kay struck out 15 in a two-hitter for Ward Melville (6-3) in Suffolk League I. Phil Carbaleira had a sacrifice fly and Dan O'Neil had an RBI single.

Deer Park 9, Kings Park 1: Ryan Korwan was 3-for-4 with two RBIs and Joe Napoli had two hits and two RBIs as Deer Park (4-7) upset first place Kings Park (10-1) in League V. Nicholas Verdicchio allowed one run in 61/3 innings for the win. St. John the Baptist 7, Holy Trinity 2: Joe Palumbo allowed one hit and struck out eight in five innings for SJB (5-2) in CHSAA. Keith Brodesser went 1-for-3 with four RBIs and Chris LeMorocco went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs.
