Whitman senior Zach Cammer ran to a ninth-place finish in a personal-best time of 16 minutes, 12.8 seconds in the Boys New York Regional Championship race at the Nike Cross Country Regional Championships at Bowdoin Park in Wappingers Falls

Cammer finished first among Long Island runners, followed by Chaminade's Thomas Slattery, who took 13th in 16:21.3.

Syosset's Ryan Depinto (16:38.6) and Adam LaFemina (16:40.6) finished 30th and 32nd, respectively and Whitman's Mike Damato (16:42) was 34th.

St. Anthony's took third overall in team scoring, led by Jake Hensler (16:35.4) and Patrick Ginty (16:36.4), who finished 24th and 25th, respectively.

Northport, led by Tim McGowan who took 39th in 16:45.5 and Alex Kramer (17:03.9) with a 57th-place finish, took seventh and Whitman was eighth in team scoring.

"To have three teams in the top ten is impressive," said Whitman coach Rob Conroy. "The whole state is there so the competition is very fierce."

Miller Place junior Tiana Guevara finished seventh in 18:44.9 in the New York Girls Regional, the highest among Long Island runners.

Garden City's Stephanie Gerland (19:21) finished 33rd and her sister Jennifer (19:57.4) took 63rd.

The North Shore girls made their presence felt with a seventh-place finish.

Vikings' senior Elizabeth Caldwell finished 35th in 19:26.2 and freshman Monica Morra (19:56.3) was 60th.

Syosset finished 10th in team scoring, lead by Lauren Gruber, who finished 55th and Henna Rustami (19:56.9) who took 61st out of 155 runners.

East Meadow's Meghan Peysson finished 68th in 20:04.8.
