Cross country beat: Kellenberg perfect so far

CROSS COUNTRY

Kellenberg girls unbeaten

The Kellenberg girls cross country program continues to rise to the occasion.

The Firebirds beat Sacred Heart, 21-49, on Wednesday and finished their regular season 7-0.

It's the first time in school history the Kellenberg girls team finished the regular season unblemished, coach Marty Brown told Newsday. Among those seven victories was a win against St. John the Baptist, which hadn't lost a dual meet in the CHSAA since Oct. 8, 2003.

Leading the way for Kellenberg is Kylie Pearse, Kim Mackay, Ashlin Conroy and Mary Hutchinson.

Herricks on the move

You can add the Herricks boys team to the list of surprise teams this season.

Although considered a talented bunch before the season, Herricks improved to 10-2 after taking first against East Meadow, Freeport and Farmingdale in a Nassau Conference I quad meet last week. Aakaash Pillalamarri, who won the race in 16:34, has led the way this season.
