Meet the players who earned first-team honors for Newsday's All-Long Island girls cross country team in 2016.
Long Island runner of the year: Katherine Lee, Shoreham-Wading River, Jr.
Lee has made a habit of dominating the competition, and this year she took it to another level. She won her second Class B public school state championship in three years, taking this year's title in 17:53.7 and helping Shorham-Wading River win the team state title.
Nassau runner of the year: Brianna O’Brien, Wheatley, Sr.
It was hard to find a Nassau runner who could keep pace with O'Brien. She dominated the county, winning the Class III championship in 18:30.78 and the Class C race at Nassau State Qualifiers in 18:54.81. O'Brien was second in the Class C public school state championship in 18:47.7.
Noreen Guilfoyle, Mt. Sinai, Jr.
She was seventh in the Class B state public school state championship in 18:46.9. Guilfoyle was second in the Class B race at the Suffolk State Qualifier in 19:07.37.
Bridget Kanaley, Bay Shore, Sr.
Kanaley was the top Long Island finisher at the state Federation championship, clocking a 19:24.2 and placing 19th. She was second in the Class A race at the Suffolk State Qualifier in 19:25.48.
Reilly Siebert, Syosset, Jr.
Siebert won the Nassau Class I championship in 19:02.66. She ran 19:23.1 in the Class A race at the state public school championships and ran 19:40.24 at the Nassau State Qualifier.
Taylor McClay, Eastport-South Manor, Sr.
The North Carolina State-bound speedster won the Class A race at the Suffolk State Qualifier in 19:14.23. She was 22nd at the state Federation championship in 19:27.9
Rachel Ruggiero, Sachem East, Jr.
Ruggiero placed 25th in the state public school Class A championship in 18:56. She was fourth in Class A, and eighth overall, at the Suffolk State Qualifier in 19:31.60.
Coach of the Year: Paul Koretzki, Shoreham-Wading River
Koretzki led the Wildcats to a Class B public school state championship, Suffolk Divisions Championship and the Suffolk State Qualifier Class B title.
