Hempe bookended his season with a pair of individual championships. He started the campaign with a gold medal at the Jeff Wolfe Holiday Tournament at Brentwood and ended it by winning the county championship in foil. In between, he went 45-1 in dual meets.

"Jake is the absolute example of a team player," Newfield coach Kyle Schirmer said. "That is why during every practice Jake takes time to help his teammates refine their skills...and offer positive support. Newfield fencing is looking to seeing what he can accomplish in the next two years."
