Sachem East's Katie Trombetta, and former Ward Melville stars Georgia Holland and Abby Beltrani were the Long Islanders among 102 girls/women selected by USA Field Hockey today to attend the Junior National Camp next week at the University of Massachusetts.

Junior National Camp, which will run from July 9-12, serves as a selection showcase for USA Field Hockey's Under-17, Under-19 and Under-21 junior national teams. This group was chosen after the conclusion of the Women’s National Championship in College Park, Md. and the National Futures Championship and Futures Elite Championships in Virginia Beach, Va.

Trombetta, who is entering the 11th grade, will compete for a spot on the Under-17 national team. Last season she was among Long Island's top scorers with 28 points, led the Flaming Arrows to their first Class A state championship, and was named to Newsday's All-Long Island team for a second time. The midfielder also received All-American honors.

Trombetta also made the Junior Olympics roster. That team will compete from July 30-August 4 in Houston.

Holland, Newsday's 2009 Player of the Year, scored 22 points in her sophomore season at Yale, was named team MVP and selected first team All-Ivy League. The midfielder/backer has been a member of USA Field Hockey's Under-17 and Under-19 teams.

Beltrani, Newsday's 2010 Player of the Year, played in 22 games as a freshman at Duke last year. A two-time All-American in high school, the midfielder was a member of the U-17 team that took bronze in the Pan-American Games in 2010, and competed on the U-19 team in Chile last year.
