Babylon's field hockey team got a much-needed home victory Friday, but a scary injury to an opponent cast a pall over the event.

The Panthers beat Greenport-Southold, 1-0, but the game was called early when Clippers goalie Katie Tuthill, 15, was injured in a collision with 18:19 remaining. Tuthill, who suffered a head injury, was taken by ambulance to Good Samaritan Hospital in West Islip. Babylon coach Catherine York called 911.

Teammate Liz Powe said Tuthill was conscious and responsive on the field. Sarah Tuthill, 17, said from the hospital Friday night that doctors believe her younger sister "has signs of a concussion and is going for a CT scan. But she's definitely doing better."

Tuthill, a sophomore, was inadvertently hit in the head after making a crouching save during a Babylon breakaway and was on her back for more than 20 minutes as she was tended to by trainers. She was accompanied to the hospital by her coach, Rebecca Lillis.

Clare McCaffrey scored the only goal 17:11 before halftime, corralling a loose ball and firing it in from close range."We're happy to get the win, but this isn't really satisfying," Babylon senior Breanna Morrow said. "[Tuthill] is definitely in our thoughts and we hope she'll be all right."
