Anthony Martelli and James Capoziello connected for three long touchdown passes and Valley Stream North forced two turnovers while backed up against its goal line in a 26-0 shutout of Clarke in a Nassau IV football game Saturday.

After a scoreless first quarter, Martelli passed to Capoziello for a 49-yard touchdown to put Valley Stream North (4-2) ahead 6-0. The play capped a six-play, 82-yard drive in which Billy Patsos rushed for 35 yards on four carries and Martelli hit Stephen Giuliante for a 15-yard reception that set up Capoziello's score.

"We had a matchup that we liked and Capoziello beat the defender and made a nice catch and run," coach Tom Schiavo said. "We were going back-and-forth with three-and-outs after three-and-outs so that was huge."

Martelli connected with Capoziello from 48 yards out on the team's next possession to make it 12-0 at the half and they connected on a 52-yard TD to make it 19-0 to start the third quarter. Patsos scored the team's final touchdown on a 57-yard run.

Patsos rushed for 239 yards on 23 carries. Martelli completed 5 of 13 passes for 249 yards and three touchdowns, and Capoziello totaled 149 receiving yards on his three catches.

Capoziello caused a strip sack with Clarke (4-2) at VSN's 1-yard line and Brian Carroll made the other shutout-saving play by intercepting a pass at the 1. Chris Dinko and Nick Gonzalez led Valley Stream North with 10 tackles apiece.
