If last night was any indication, fans are in for some fantastic football at Hofstra this weekend. In the Conference I semifinals, top-seeded Freeport beat a pesky Syosset team 39-25, and then No. 3 Farmingdale cruised past No. 2 Oceanside, 42-20 (more on this game right here on the blog a little later).

So with the Conference I final set, let's turn our attention to Conference III, which plays its semifinal games this evening at Hofstra.

Conference III:

No. 2 Lawrence (7-2) vs. No. 5 Hewlett (7-2), 4 p.m. — Don't let the seeds fool you in this one. After all, Hewlett dismantled the Golden Tornadoes 35-7 in Week 3. The Bulldogs have a high-powered offense led by quarterback Alex Kahn and running backs Mark Rizzo and Sam Martorella, but their defense, which has held seven of its nine opponents to seven points or less this season, often gets overlooked. Jonathan Alfieri had two sacks and a fumble recovery in last week's win over Sewanhaka, and Niv Sultan is a beast at defensive end. Their main mission is to stop the Fredericks brothers, Ryan and Tyler, who both rushed for over 100 yards last week at Glen Cove. Expect this one to be a shootout.

*In our weekly picks, everyone went with Lawrence except for me.

No. 1 Lynbrook (8-1) vs. No. 6 Plainedge (5-4), 7:30 p.m. — If you're at tonight's game, take a look at the sidelines and you'll be able to tell immediately who the favorite in this game is. The Owls boast one of the largest teams on Long Island, with a roster 70 strong, while the Red Devils suit up not even 40. Plainedge freshman quarterback Nick Frenger (pictured above) has had a fantastic season for a youngster, but now he runs into Mike Kozlakowski, Brandon Cheney and the rest of the Lynbrook defense. Expect Lynbrook in a rout, much like their 42-21 win at Plainedge in Week 2.

*All five of us went with Lynbrook to win this one.
