Erik Adon's two TDs carry East Islip past Smithtown East, 35-21

Erik Adon scored a 51-yard rushing touchdown midway through the third quarter to give No. 3 East Islip a 20-14 lead over No. 6 Smithtown East Saturday. Adon scored another touchdown, this time a 14-yard run, with eight minutes left in the game for a 28-14 lead. Adon rushed for 151 yards on 18 carries and two touchdowns. Jack Hannigan rushed for 97 yards on 15 carries. Pat Valoy and Bob Heyward combined for 11 tackles. East Islip (7-3) will face Smithtown West 6 p.m. Friday in a Suffolk II semifinal.

Commack 14, Brentwood 7: Rob Paccione hit fullback Jesse Kilmetis out of the back field for a 14-yard touchdown to put top-seeded Commack ahead 13-7 with 1:35 left in the third quarter in a Division I quarterfinal against No. 8 Brentwood. Paccione capped a 12-play drive with a 7-yard TD run with 5:50 left in the second quarter to tie the score for Commack (9-0) (after Billy Holscher's extra point). Cornerback Auggie Contressa led Commack with 12 tackles. Commack forced five turnovers on defense. Commack will host No. 4 Floyd at 1 p.m. Saturday in a semifinal.

Smithtown West 57, North Babylon 46: Ryan Keenan caught a 21-yard touchdown pass from Matt Heldberg with seven minutes remaining to give No. 2 Smithtown West a 50-46 lead over No. 7 North Babylon Friday night in a Suffolk II quarterfinal. Senior Kyle Mathie had career-highs of 192 receiving yards and five touchdowns on seven catches, including a 19-yard TD reception that gave Smithtown West a 36-26 lead at the half. North Babylon opened the third with 20 consecutive points, led by Matt Grassa, who finished with four rushing touchdowns. Grassa had a 67-yard TD run to give North Babylon a 40-36 then added a 1-yard score to increase the lead to 46-36 with four minutes left in the third. Andrew Lapreziosa returned the ensuing kickoff 86 yards for a touchdown to pull Smithtown West within 46-43. Heldberg completed 8 of 19 passes for 213 yards and five touchdowns and had five carries for 72 yards, including a 25-yard TD run with two minutes left to seal the win. Logan Greco rushed for 145 yards on 15 carries, including a 71-yard TD run in the first. Smithtown West advanced to the semifinals and will play at 6 p.m. on Friday.

Riverhead 44, Half Hollow Hills West 21: Ken Simco capped the opening drive of the second half with his second 1-yard TD run of the game to give No. 1 Riverhead a 27-14 lead over No. 8 Half Hollow Hills West (5-4) in a Suffolk II quarterfinal. Riverhead (8-1) opened the second half with a six-minute drive that went 65 yards with Jeremiah Cheatom carrying most of the load. After Hills West came within 27-21 in the fourth, Riverhead scored 19 unanswered points to seal the game. Simco hit Mike VanBrommel for a 3-yard TD pass to make it 35-21 with seven minutes left. A safety on the next Hills West possession made it 37-21 with 5:40 left, and Ryun Moore's 1-yard TD with 3:15 to play made it 44-21. Cheatom had 39 carries for 166 yards and a TD. Jon Lee and Andrew Kinard each had eight tackles. Riverhead will host No. 5 Newfield in a semifinal Saturday.
