Gagstetter powers VSC win over Bellmore JFK

Terrance Gagstetter scored on a 5-yard run in the third quarter and had a sack and a fumble recovery to lift Valley Stream Central in a 21-19 win over Bellmore JFK in Nassau Conference football Saturday.

Grosso scored on a 1-yard run in the first quarter and Laton Butler added a 5-yard scamper in the second quarter to give VSC (3-2) a 14-0 lead.

Bellmore came back as Colon caught touchdown passes of 59 and 37 yards to cut VSC's lead to 14-13 at the half. Gagstetter's 5-yard run in the third sealed extended VSC's lead to 21-13. Kweesi Harrison and DaShawn Wallace each had interceptions in the fourth quarter, which halted two Bellmore JFK drives. Harrision had five tackles, Vincent Okafor had nine tackles and one sack and Victor Ochi had seven tackles and two sacks in the win.Calhoun 19, Roslyn 14: Nick Marcello hit a 30-yard field goal with four minutes left in the fourth quarter to give Calhoun (2-3) a 19-6 lead in Conference II. Marcello also hit a 43-yard field goal and had four touchbacks on his five kickoffs. Julian Lee ran for 83 yards and a touchdown and Corey Barchat added 75 yards and a score for the Colts. The Calhoun defense was led by Joohyung Kang with six tackles and a sack, Nick Pititto, who had five stops and a sack, John Wigand with four tackles and a sack, Rob Rinck, who made six stops and Brian Behnke with a fourth-quarter interception.Long Beach 35, Great Neck South 11: Tom Rowley's 20-yard touchdown pass to Sam Pereless, Hunter O'Neill's 6-yard fumble return for a touchdown and Lorenzo Torres' 17-yard interception return for a score gave Long Beach (3-2) a 21-0 lead in Conference II. Farrell Gordon rushed for 117 yards. Long Beach's defense held Great Neck South to one first down in the first half.Manhasset 36, South Side 6: Senior Harry Kucharczyk completed 7 of 9 passes for 137 yards and two touchdowns, ran six times for a career-high 105 yards and two touchdowns and was 4-for-4 in extra points for Manhasset (3-2) in Conference II. The four overall touchdowns for Kucharczyk were a career-high. Alessandro Troia ran nine times for 115 yards and a touchdown and Frank Morelli had nine tackles and three assists for Manhasset. South Side falls to 1-4.Garden City 42, Elmont 0: Conor McDonnell ran back an interception 33 yards with 2:31 left in the half to cap a 28-0 second quarter for Garden City (4-1) over Elmont in Conference II. Brian Fischer opened the scoring in the second quarter with an 18-yard run and Tom Gordon threw two touchdown passes, a 49-yard pass down the right sideline to Patric Berkery and a 9-yard pass to Scott McEleroy.

Mike Borges, who forced an Elmont interception in the second quarter with a hit on the quarterback, blocked a punt with 7:15 left in the third quarter that Scott Connetta recovered in the end zone to give the Trojans a 35-0 lead. The Garden City defense forced seven turnovers and limited Elmont (3-2) to 94 total yards.
