Nassau I football roundup: Felix Diaz’s pick-six wins it for Hicksville

Felix Diaz intercepted a pass and returned it 55 yards for the game’s only score with 35 seconds remaining in the game Saturday to give Hicksville a 6-0 win against Westbury in Nassau I.

Diaz also had eight tackles. Billy Cornelius added 10 tackles, three sacks, forced a fumble and recovered a fumble. Chris Lopus added 15 tackles, two sacks and a fumble recovery. Hicksville had six takeaways, including five fumble recoveries.

East Meadow 18, Baldwin 6: Mike Wood rushed for 185 yards on 22 carries. Shawn Regan’s 1-yard touchdown run with six minutes left in the third quarter gave the Jets a 12-6 lead. Stephen Calderaro’s 27-yard touchdown run with eight minutes left extended the lead to 18-6. Calderaro rushed for 75 yards on 12 carries, and Mike Grech led the defense with 11 tackles and two sacks.

Farmingdale 35, Herricks 7: Anthony Armstrong ran 11 times for 75 yards and two touchdowns, and Kevin Wilson added 91 yards and a touchdown on eight carries for Farmingdale. Aaron Almodovar had 10 tackles, and Vinny Delia added nine tackles and a fumble recovery for the Dalers. Kevin McCormick was 7 of 12 passing for 111 yards and two touchdowns.

Freeport 35, Syosset 6: Aaje Grayson had six carries for 104 yards with two touchdowns for Freeport. Greg Pimentel rushed for 89 yards on 11 carries with one touchdown. Giovanni Martini converted all five PAT attempts. Freeport’s defense held Syosset to 142 total yards. Makhai Jinks had six solo tackles, including a sack. Gerard Smikle had a 12-yard interception return for a touchdown in the second quarter to give Freeport a 21-0 lead.

Hempstead 19, Long Beach 8: Tylique Walker had three carries for 114 yards and two touchdowns, including a 65-yard run on the first score of the game to lead Hempstead. Jaeden Mann had six carries for 61 yards and a touchdown. Jordan Sachel led the defense with 12 tackles and an assist. Dashawn Meadors had 11 tackles. Long Beach scored with four minutes remaining in the fourth quarter. The Marines went for the onside kick but Hempstead recovered and ran the clock out to preserve the win.

Uniondale 34, Plainview-Old Bethpage JFK 6: Rolando Meyers-Turner completed 8 of 10 passes for 89 yards, and had 80 yards rushing on seven carries including a score for Uniondale on Friday night. Danny Ashley rushed for 168 yards and three touchdowns on 12 attempts. Marvin Racine had 14 tackles to lead the defense. Chris Borzor had a 68-yard interception return for a touchdown in the third quarter. Oliver Escobar converted all four of his PAT attempts in the win.
