Valentino, Sands spark Mepham in thriller

Mike Valentino ran 1 yard for the go-ahead touchdown with 31 seconds left in the fourth quarter, and Nah’jel Sands intercepted a pass at midfield with 10 seconds remaining to lead Mepham over Sewanhaka, 36-33, in Nassau II Saturday. Mepham (4-1) trailed 33-22 after Myolritch Beaubrun scored his fifth touchdown for Sewanhaka with 5:30 remaining in the fourth. Tristan Saade scored on a 15-yard touchdown pass from Michael Proios (15-for-28, 255 yards, three TDs) with 3:32 left to cut the gap to 33-28. The Pirates forced a three-and-out and needed just six plays to go 70 yards for the winning touchdown.

Carey 21, Herricks 14: Dan Conte found Dominic Scorcia on a 9-yard touchdown pass early in the fourth quarter to give Carey (3-2) a 21-7 lead. Scorcia recorded three catches for 24 yards and two touchdowns, and also came up with an interception. Shaheem Taylor-White had 62 yards and a touchdown on 11 carries.

Garden City 28, MacArthur 0: Andrew DiSantis returned two blocked punts for touchdowns, including one following the first drive of the game, to boost Garden City (5-0) to a 14-0 halftime lead. Colin Hart connected with Tyler Wuchte for a 2-yard touchdown pass, and Chris Mixon had a 61-yard run, also in the third quarter. Mixon rushed for 95 yards on five carries. Matt Granville had an interception, and T.J. Evoy had a fumble recovery.

Elmont 35, Bellmore JFK 10: Chester Anderson caught two touchdown passes, including a 65-yarder on the first play from scrimmage, to lead Elmont (4-1). His second score came on a 53-yard pass from Aaron Ruthman in the third quarter. Anderson had 139 yards on five catches. He also made two interceptions. Ruthman completed 13 of 21 passes for 218 yards. He also hit Vincent MacDonald with a 3-yard TD pass. Joshua Milfort St. Cyr had a touchdown and 53 yards on six carries.

Calhoun 49, Great Neck North 20: Thomas Cummings ran for 196 yards and four touchdowns on 22 carries to lead Calhoun (2-3). Thomas Casimano carried eight times for 98 yards and a touchdown. Ariel DeJesus caught two passes for 48 yards and a score and Daniel Marcello converted all seven extra-point attempts.

Long Beach 34, Manhasset 13: Sam Brown was 10-for-24 with 278 yards and four touchdowns to lead Long Beach (4-1). Vincent Deale had five receptions for 123 yards and two touchdowns. Cole Hell had two receptions for 75 yards and one touchdown. Tyreek Bromley had 11 carries for 95 yards and one touchdown. He also had 10 tackles, two for losses.
