Nassau IV football roundup

Timmy Shanley found Anthony Salambini for a 22-yard touchdown pass with three minutes remaining, and Shanley ran in a 2-point conversion to lift West Hempstead to a 15-14 win over Mineola in yesterday’s season opener.

Shanley completed 6 of 8 passes for 84 yards and two touchdowns. Salambini had two receptions for 50 yards and two touchdowns.

Seaford 42, North Shore 33: A.J. Cain ran for 85 yards and two touchdowns on nine carries and also completed 3 of 3 passes for 125 yards and a touchdown to lead Seaford in its season opener.

Danny Roell rushed 14 times for 155 yards and a touchdown, and also hauled in a 65-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter. Mike Andersen ran 28 times for 215 yards. Coach Rob Perpall said Kevin Murphy was integral defensively in the second half, as Murphy had two interceptions and blocked an extra point in the fourth quarter to halt North Shore’s comeback.

Carle Place/Wheatley 32, East Rockaway 14: Chris Kelly completed 4 of 5 passes for 68 yards and a touchdown, and also had six carries for 82 carries and a score to lead Carle Place to a Nassau-IV win over East Rockaway.

Carle Place/Wheatley got out to a 14-0 lead following a 2-yard touchdown run from John Derrider and a 23-yard touchdown reception by Dom Pascarella. Derrider finished with three carries for 15 yards and a score, and also recorded one catch for 15 yards and one interception.

Oyster Bay 20, Island Trees 7: Dylan Toney had a 1-yard touchdown run with 7:07 left in the third quarter to give Oyster Bay the lead for good. He added another score on a 65-yard run in the fourth quarter and ran for 106 yards on 19 carries. Charles Collette went 6-for-17 passing for 71 yards with a 16-yard touchdown pass to Cliff Montick.

Collette had five tackles and an interception. Max Greenspan had six tackles, one assist, two sacks and a fumble recovery.

Locust Valley 31, Valley Stream South 7: Matt Dellaquila took the first play from scrimmage 60 yards up the middle of the field for a touchdown for Locust Valley in its opener. Dellaquila finished with 75 yards on five rushes and a touchdown, and Ramell Phillips added 60 yards on eight carries and a touchdown. Francesco Anile found Nick Paniagua on a deep pass in the final minute of the first half to take an 18-0 lead.

Malverne 40, Cold Spring Harbor 0: Amarie Reyes ran for 200 yards and two touchdowns on six carries to lead Malverne. His scoring runs were 55 and 63 yards. Maurice Teachey ran for 62 yards and caught a 52-yard touchdown from Dante Lacroix. Lacroix also ran for 128 yards on nine carries.
