Liounis, Caccavale save North Shore
Nick Liounis and Sal Caccavale combined on a tackle to stop Malverne’s two-point conversion attempt with 1:37 left to preserve North Shore’s 21-20 win in Nassau IV football on Friday.
John Magliocco’s extra point after Brian Tilton’s 6-yard touchdown run with 9:43 left in the fourth quarter gave North Shore (4-3) a 21-14 lead.
Malverne’s Maurice Teachey made it a 1-point game with a 15-yard touchdown run before the failed conversion.
North Shore’s Ryan Aughavin had 196 yards and a touchdown on 17 carries.
Carle Place 33, Clarke 15: Quarterback Chris Kelly ran for 67 yards and three touchdowns on 12 carries to lead Carle Place (5-2) Friday. Carle Place trailed 15-12 at halftime. Kelly’s 9-yard TD run in the third quarter gave Carle Place a 19-15 lead, and Dom Pascarella and Luke Caliendo followed with rushing scores.
Valley Stream South 29, Island Trees 14: After being down six points at halftime, Ozzy Traill, Nick Hernandez and Johnny Reyes scored touchdowns to lead the Valley Stream South (3-4) comeback. Hernandez had 130 yards and one touchdown on 12 carries.
Cold Spring Harbor 14, Oyster Bay 0: Connor Cassidy’s 17-yard touchdown with 10:09 left in the first quarter and Dylan Guarneri’s 4-yard touchdown with 1:49 left gave Cold Spring Harbor (4-3) the win Saturday. Cassidy ran for 160 yards on nine carries and Guarneri rushed for 100 yards on 14 carries.
Locust Valley 25, East Rockaway 16: Francesco Anile began the scoring with a 2-yard touchdown run, leading Locust Valley (4-3) to 19 unanswered points in the first half Saturday. Thomas O’Brien ran for 114 yards and one touchdown on 14 carries for Locust Valley, and Jose Maldonado had seven tackles.
West Hempstead 42, Friends Academy 21: Timmy Shanley had a 75-yard kickoff return for a touchdown and caught Michael Matuozzi’s pass for a 60-yard score that gave West Hempstead (2-5) a 28-14 lead in the second quarter. Anthony Galan added 110 yards and two TDs on 12 carries.
Seaford 34, Mineola 0: Danny Roell ran for 275 yards and three touchdowns on 12 carries in the first half to lead Seaford (7-0). After A.J. Cain connected with Kevin Murphy for a 65-yard touchdown pass to open the scoring, Roell rattled off scoring runs of 55, 85 and 65 yards.
