Nassau IV football roundup: VSS beats Mineola in opener

Matt Doncell connected with Nick Hernandez for a 19-yard touchdown on fourth-and-10 in the third quarter to give Valley Stream South a three-point lead in its 30-21 victory over Mineola in its Nassau IV football opener Saturday. Hernandez rushed for 181 yards and two scores.

Cold Spring Harbor 40, East Rockaway 13: Connor Cassidy rushed for 104 yards on 11 carries and two touchdowns and Nick Basso had 114 rushing yards on six carries, highlighted by a 65-yard touchdown run for Cold Spring Harbor.

Seaford 28, Carle Place 0: Joe Angelastro rushed for 118 yards on 19 carries and Michael Andersen added 72 yards and two touchdowns on 11 rushes to lead Seaford.

Island Trees 43, Friends Academy 17: Precious Bolaji scored on a 37-yard run after Christian Provenzano recovered an onside kick at the beginning of the second half to give Island Trees a 21-10 lead.

Clarke 35, Malverne 13: Aus tin Carman-Lyonshad had 158 yards and a touchdown on 19 carries and Antonio Iannello added 125 yards on 20 rushes and a touchdown for Clarke.

Locust Valley 14, North Shore 6: Cooper Trepeta ran a 4-yard touchdown on third-and-goal with 10:13 remaining to give Locust Valley a 7-6 lead. The touchdown was set up by Jay Johnson’s blocked punt, which put the ball at North Shore’s 8-yard line.

West Hempstead 27, Oyster Bay 12: Anthony Salimbene had a 70-yard interception return for a touchdown on the fifth play of the game to set the tone for West Hempstead. Anthony Galan led West Hempstead with 180 yards on 18 carries and two touchdowns.
