Elijah Rustin completed a 41-yard touchdown pass to Malik Howard with 6:26 remaining to give Hempstead the go-ahead score in a 26-22 win over Herricks in Nassau Conference I football Saturday.
Howard also ran for 83 yards and a touchdown. Rahmik Perry rushed for 82 yards and a score.
Herricks, trailing 26-20, had a chance to tie the score but Hempstead's Albert Dodson made his second interception of the game in the end zone with 1:30 remaining to end the threat. Hempstead (2-4), which has won two straight, took a safety with 19 seconds left to provide the final margin. Tigers linebacker Jason Yepez had 12 tackles. Herricks drops to 1-5. Oceanside 43, Plainview JFK 14: Tyler Heuer completed 9 of 16 for 169 yards and four TD passes to lead Oceanside (6-0) in Conference I. Gene Garay had three catches for 51 yards and a TD. Nick Sherry led the ground game with 122 yards and two touchdowns on seven carries. Plainview JFK is 1-5.Farmingdale 33, Baldwin 6: Kevin Wahl ran for 136 yards and four touchdowns to lead Farmingdale (4-2) in Conference I. Sal Tuttle was 4-for-8 with 41 yards and ran for 49 yards and a score. Pat Starke had three tackles and two interceptions to lead the defense. Wahl, at linebacker, made six tackles. Linebacker Carl Brescia had 10 tackles and Ben Rosen had four tackles, a sack and recovered a fumble. Two of Farmingdale's touchdowns came in the first four minutes of the third quarter after two Baldwin fumbles. The Bruins drop to 3-3.
Freeport 41, East Meadow 6: Isaiah Barnes completed 5 of 9 passes for 131 yards and a touchdown and ran six times for 140 yards and a score to lead Freeport (5-1) in Conference I. Maurice Irby had nine carries for 92 yards and two touchdowns and Dan Olivier ran 10 times for 51 yards and two touchdowns. Oscar Bruce had two sacks and eight tackles and Olivier had 13 tackles. East Meadow falls to 4-2.Syosset 30, Massapequa 7: Jake Lebowitz had seven solo tackles, three sacks and a forced fumble to lead Syosset (3-3) in Conference I. Nicholas Bilianis paced the offense with 139 yards and a TD on 16 carries. Massapequa is 3-3. Uniondale 39, Port Washington 0: Terrance Rodway scored on a 92-yard kickoff return and a 38-yard punt return in the first quarter to lead Uniondale (3-3) in Conference I. Rodway also caught a 25-yard touchdown pass in the third quarter. William Stanback rushed eight times for 93 yards and one touchdown and Moses Adeyemi rushed six times for 91 yards in the game, as Uniondale rushed for a total of 241 yards against the Port Washington defense. Sean Brown, Khalid Murray and Darrell Fuller each recorded a sack in the win. Port Washington drops to 0-6.
