Soriente leads Plainedge past Valley Stream South

Gianfranco Soriente scored a 16-yard touchdown with six minutes remaining to lift Plainedge over Valley Stream South, 21-19, Saturday in Nassau III.

Valley Stream South took a 19-14 lead with five minutes left in the third quarter. Soriente ran for 96 yards and two touchdowns. Nick Frenger was 8-for-14 for 140 yards, including a 61-yard touchdown to John Johnson in the first quarter. Linebacker Brent Gillen had 14 tackles and safety John Logan made 12 stops.

South Side 26, Sewanhaka 18: Cole Considine completed five passes for 120 yards and threw three touchdown passes to Matthew Berry to lead South Side. Berry also made nine tackles. Kevin Rafferty returned an interception for a touchdown in the fourth quarter to help seal the victory.

Lawrence 62, Glen Cove 7: Brothers Jordan and Tyler Fredericks totaled eight touchdowns, including two on defense, for Lawrence. Sophomore Jordan Fredericks racked up 311 all-purpose yards with five touchdowns, including two scores of 80-plus yards. Jordan scored on a 95-yard interception return in the first quarter and a 80-yard rush with 30 seconds left in the first half. He returned his second interception for a score from 47 yards out in the third quarter. Tyler Fredericks had 198 toal yards, including a 55-yard run. Matt Leone had nine tackles, a sack and a fumble recovery.

Lynbrook 33, Carle Place 6: Danny Kelly rushed for 159 yards and two touchdowns on 19 carries to lead Lynbrook. Matt Fernez had six carries for 97 yards and a touchdown, and Dylan Lucas added two carries for 85 yards, including an 80-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter.

Holy Trinity 42, St. Francis Buffalo 41: Joe Ferguson scored a 1-yard TD on fourth down with a second left for Holy Trinity (1-0) in non-league. Ferguson's run capped an 80-yard drive for the Titans, who scored 35 points in the fourth quarter, including the final 28. Chris Laviano completed 24 of 36 passes for 305 yards and threw four of his five touchdown passes in the fourth quarter.

St. John the Baptist 15, Fordham Prep 13: Lawson Predergast returned an interception 80 yards for a score to give SJB a 15-7 lead at the end of the second quarter in CHSFL. Jake Wiswall rushed for 53 yards and made six tackles, and Kevin DeMaille ran for 51 yards and a first-quarter TD. The Cougars defense had five interceptions as SJB avenged a loss to Fordham Prep in the CHFSL AA semifinals last season.
