Stewart helps Garden City roll over Mepham

Brett Stewart accounted for 318 of his team's 379 total yards and led Garden City to a 27-6 win over Mepham in Nassau II. Stewart threw for 194 yards and a TD and ran for 124 yards with a TD. With 4:06 left in the third, he hit Matt Borges on 3rd-and-15 on a fly pattern that went 50 yards for a score and put Garden City (3-0) ahead 20-0. Borges had four catches for 98 yards. Gerard Smith hit field goals of 33 yards and 30 yards and was 3-for-3 on extra points. Mepham is 1-2. Wantagh 14, Elmont 0: Michael Ferraro ran for 96 yards and a TD, and had four catches for 36 yards and a TD for Wantagh (2-1). His 4-yard TD plunge up the middle gave the Warriors a 14-0 lead in the first. Wantagh scored on its first two drives and its defense forced seven turnovers to hold the lead. Dylan Beckwith and Kyle Sliwak each had two interceptions. Nick English had a sack and a fumble recovery. Ralph Sommer and Chris Burke each made seven tackles.

MacArthur 28, Herricks 0: James Knoebel ran for 74 yards and had a 9-yard TD reception to lead MacArthur (1-2) over Herricks (1-2). Brandon Kustek rushed for 68 yards and a score, and Carmine Criscione ran for 65 yards. Jimmy Kelleher completed 3 of 11 passes for 37 yards and two TDs. His 15-yard TD pass to Jared Wolfe, on an out-and-up route, gave the Generals a 14-0 lead with 5:50 left in the third. Cornerback Mike Brown returned an interception 30 yards to the Herricks 15, setting up Kustek's 3-yard TD run in the fourth.

Bellmore JFK 17, South Side 0: John-Austin Emory ran for 131 yards and a TD on 28 attempts for Bellmore JFK (1-2) on Friday. Tim Kutil returned an interception 38 yards for a TD to give the Cougars a 6-0 lead with 6:01 left in the second. Kutil's 35-yard catch on a corner route set up Emory's 8-yard TD run that stretched the lead to 14-0 with 5:39 left in the third. Tommy Ferner had 12 tackles and a pass deflection. Matt Tenenbaum made nine tackles and Todd Yovino had a sack.
