Nicholas Bottoni threw for 101 yards and two touchdowns on 6-for-7 passing in Whitman’s 41-35 win over Ward Melville in Suffolk Division I Saturday. His 29-yard pass to Tyriek Mays-McKoy with six minutes left in the fourth quarter gave Whitman a 41-28 lead. After Ward Melville scored with one minute left, Whitman’s Liam Billanti recovered an onside kick to seal the win. A.J. Evans rushed for 123 yards and three touchdowns on 12 carries. He rushed for touchdowns of 7, 33, and 25 yards. Jonathan Maldonado ran for 59 yards and a touchdown. Mays-McKoy caught three passes for 43 yards and a touchdown. Ward Melville’s Chris Prussen scored five touchdowns, rushing for three and throwing for two. It is the first time Whitman had started 6-0 in the 83-year history of the program, according to Newsday records. Ward Melville is 4-2.
Sachem East 24, Central Islip 14: Tristian McMahon’s 80-yard touchdown run midway through the third quarter gave Sachem East a 17-14 lead on the way to a win over Central Islip (1-5) in Suffolk I. Zach Burns added a 27-yard touchdown run late to ice the game and Rob Garcia added a punt block for a touchdown for Sachem East (3-3).
Brentwood 35, Patchogue-Medford 20: Jo’Vanny Brown ran for 182 yards and three touchdowns, including two in the second half, on 22 carries to lead Brentwood in Suffolk I. Brentwood scored the final three touchdowns and shut out Patchogue-Medford in the second half. Randy Ramnarace had a fourth-quarter interception and later scored the final touchdown on a one-yard run. Enoryt Copening and Antonio Castillo each had an interception and Chris Linsalata had seven tackles.
Floyd 42, Sachem North 10: Dylan Harris rushed for 150 yards and four touchdowns on 11 carries to lead Floyd (5-1) in Suffolk I. Brian Benson recorded seven tackles (two for a loss), Michael Turner made seven tackles (two for a loss) and one sack. Quarterback LaDuke Harris rushed for 120 yards and had a 60-yard TD run. Jaden Montalvo ran for a 63-yard score for the Colonials. Sachem North is 2-4.
Riverhead 33, Bay Shore 0: Amari Funn ran for 117 yards and three touchdowns on 17 carries and returned a punt for a touchdown to lead Riverhead (3-3) in Suffolk I. The Riverhead defense held Bay Shore to 21 yards of total offense, blocked two punts and recorded a safety.
