The Newfield defense stopped North Babylon on fourth-and-1 with 30 seconds remaining on the 6-yard line in a 9-6 victory in Suffolk Division II football Saturday. The defense held North Babylon scoreless for 45 minutes after Joel Lomax rushed for a 67-yard score on the opening drive. James Hannon’s 2-yard touchdown run, followed by successful extra point kick by Jadon Forthe, gave Newfield (3-2) a 7-6 lead in the second quarter. They went ahead 9-6 on a safety in the fourth quarter after the ball was snapped out of the end zone. Joe Hackal rushed for 82 yards on 13 carries in the victory. North Babylon fell to 2-3.

West Islip 41, Centereach 13: Konrad Maciejny rushed for 208 yards and three touchdowns on 13 carries to lead West Islip (3-1). Maciejny had an 88-yard rushing score in the second quarter, pushing the West Islip lead to 20-0. Maciejny would add a 20-yard rushing score in the third quarter and a 1-yard touchdown in the fourth. Bob Richardson threw for 115 yards and connected on two touchdowns with Rocco Carpinello. Their second touchdown connection came on a 48-yard pass in the second quarter. Chris Piropato had six solo tackles and two sacks. Centereach is 1-4.

Smithtown West 33, Copiague 0: Owen Ellick rushed for 173 yards and two touchdowns for Smithtown West (2-3). Ellick opened up the scoring with a 47-yard rushing touchdown in the first quarter. Brayden Stahl threw for 96 yards and two touchdowns. His first touchdown came on a 34-yard connection with Tim Vanderbrink in the first quarter to put Smithtown West ahead 19-0. Jason Antunes scored on a 2-yard run in the fourth quarter. The defense recorded four interceptions. Copiague is 0-5.

Huntington 28, Long Beach 7: Josiah Melendez had 16 carries for 146 yards and two touchdowns to lead Huntington (3-2) in a non-league victory. Robbie Smith added 16 carries for 108 yards and two touchdowns in the win. Melendez’s 16-yard rushing touchdown in the third quarter extended Huntington’s lead to 21-7. John Chirico had two interceptions for the Blue Devils. Long Beach falls to 1-4.
